This project, A Year of Meals, consists of daily posts a meal I had the day before, and includes glimpses and reflections into my life as a midwife, wife and human. It also serves as a love letter to my beloved husband Kevin (aka My Love, or, My Guy) who pestered me to start this thing.

When we got back from NYC Thursday evening, at 7:30 PM, after traveling through torrential rain, driving past a double rainbow, swooping down the last hill before home where a cloud strewn sky opened before us, we were hungry, and I was too tired to cook.

Cereal (made special with hand picked Maine blueberries) for Kevin, and reheated leftovers for me.

Then yesterday, having started this post in the morning, before doing my physical therapy in the hot tub, getting a much needed hair cut, going to Trader Joe’s, securing a car cleaning, going to the food coop (and forgetting my wallet, so I got to walk in twice, lucky me), driving to and receiving my acupuncture appointment (best nap of the month) then home to a couple hours of office work (scheduling, ordering labs, reporting on bloodwork and imaging results, approving refills, dealing with emails), I had enough energy to make dinner and watch a show (Sugar, final episode!), not enough to make dinner, watch a show, and, finish a post. So here I am, once again, only kind of writing, not really writing, but, at least I am writing.

About last night’s dinner: the photo is a bomb, but the sandwich was amazing. All day, I wrongly remembered having lettuce. Nope. That was not a head of romaine in the crisper drawer. It was a head of Radicchio di Treviso that had been in the fridge long enough to lose its pink. Hmmm… I thought. That could work, especially if the bitter of the radicchio was paired with sweet and musky fig jam. It worked! Because it was ripe, I added avocado. The resulting sandwich of Bacon, Radicchio, Avocado, and Tomato is not BLT, but a BRAT, and that makes me chuckle.
