Summer fabrics like linen, gauze, and cotton are light and breathable for a reason, they keep us sane in the heat. But when everything you’re wearing is soft and airy, the outfit can start to feel like it’s missing something. Usually that something is weight.
When an outfit feels unfinished, it’s usually missing one of three kinds of weight:
Visual weight: contrast, texture, hardware, darker accents.
Literal weight: substantial jewelry, structured bags, shoes with some presence.
Stylistic weight: something unexpected. A necklace through a belt loop. A track pant with a feminine top. Something that keeps the outfit from feeling too predictable.
