Listen. I love the fall. Cider mills? Yes. Sweater weather? Yes. Cozy reads? Always.
HOWEVER. Summer will always have my heart. The turn from summer to fall always brings that feeling of not wanting to let go. As in, you can pull me from the warm beach kicking and screaming. This may come as a surprise seeing as my general style and color sense is immediately recognizable as earthy autumn tones, and I always seem to settle into fall eventually, but, ugh. Another summer gone.
Yes, I’m a teacher and I get summers off so that is certainly part of the appeal. I also live in an area of Michigan where summers are pretty much perfection and annoyingly fleeting. There’s just something about extra long hours of daylight, dips on hot days in a cold lake, and nights that require a sweatshirt over shorts that I never want to give up. Sure, fall is having a moment. It’s very pumpkin spicy and cozy and crunchy, but I know that winter is next and it will be May before I’m warm. Basically, I’m a lizard and it’s fine.
This fall has taken an extra long time to arrive in earnest and I can’t say that I mind. (Besides teaching in 80 degree weather without AC). Today we move officially into fall. The weather seems to have caught on and while yesterday I sat on the beach overlooking Lake Michigan holding onto the summer state of mind for as long as possible, today I’m under a blanket and starting to settle in. Here’s to autumn and all the good things it brings. And when I say good things, I mostly mean cider doughnuts.
