Hello World

If you’re reading this, you probably found my blog from the Astral Codex Ten Non-Book Review Contest. My entry “Dating Men in the Bay Area” was a finalist and generated quite a bit of discussion.

I remain extremely confused about all this. I wrote the review as a personal challenge; I’ve always wanted to write an essay, and I figured the review contest was a good excuse to give it a try. Of course, me being me, I procrastinated until the very last day, wrote it in a 12-hour writing marathon, proclaimed it a hot mess, was peer-pressured into submitting it just to complete my personal goal, prayed not too many people would read it…

…and landed in the top 10 posts of all time on ACX.

Again: I remain extremely confused about all this.

I don’t identify as an essayist, and certainly not as a blogger. But since that review went live, I’ve had a substantial amount of people reach out and encourage me to continue writing.

So that’s what I’m going to do. I honestly don’t know what this blog will be about, but I know it will reflect my mind—cluttered with eclectic interests and opinions, suffused with daydreams.

Prepare for commentary on community building, explorations of obscure historical events, book reviews, biology binges, and, of course, long-winded musings on dating and culture.

Why should you read this blog? I haven’t the slightest clue. Will it be any good? God only knows.

What I do know is that it has an adorable crow mascot. So, if anything, sub for the lil’ crow king. He’s excited for this writing journey, and I am, too.
