Pat Nevin believes consistency will be key for Kilmarnock this season after admitting his former side have looked “a little bit frightening” during an unpredictable start to the campaign.
The former Killie and Scotland winger reckons there is plenty to be positive about from Neil McCann’s side going forward – but questioned whether their early tendency for chaotic, high-scoring encounters could become a theme.
Nevin made the assessment following the opening-day 4-3 defeat to St Johnstone, when Killie surrendered a 3-2 lead in Perth, and events since have only added weight to his observations.
A 5-1 defeat to Celtic followed at Rugby Park before Killie responded by twice coming from behind to defeat Ayr United 3-2 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Premier Sports Cup.
It means McCann’s side have now conceded 11 goals across their last three matches while scoring seven at the other end.
Speaking to betTOM, Nevin said:
“Kilmarnock are a little bit frightening because they’re very up and down. They’re another one of my old teams and it was really weird at the weekend.
