Designing a small space is the brave thing to do

“I hope someone calls child services on this family for stuffing their kids in such a small space.”

Yup that was a real comment, and I can honestly say I don’t think I ever expected to hear this one.

Maybe reading it makes you mad. Or incredulous. Or maybe you agree. How dare NYC create such inhospitable homes for families.

But if I’m being honest, this comment just made me feel sad. For all the kids out there who ARE suffering. The kid’s who are underfed, malnourished, abused, lacking care and provision. Who sticks up for them when society is hell-bent on attacking those with so much?

They tell you, “Don’t read the comments.” I didn’t listen. And there have been some that made me think “I shouldn’t have read the comments” but I knew that I had to.

I had to understand the pain points that people have in their space. I had to hear the voices of excitement typing, “I’ve been searching for someone who understood”.

I needed to know where I could do good. So I turned to reading the comments posted on our house tour and ended up taking away three really powerful insights that I think will benefit you as well. No matter how big or small your home might be.
