While the rest of America frets over inflation, grocery bills, and mortgage rates, I conducted this month’s research at Swifty’s at The Colony Hotel. It’s a completely different economy.
This third installment of the Palm Beach Trophy Wife Index™ (PBTWI™) is our highly unofficial, surprisingly useful monthly measure of liquidity, confidence, and animal spirits among the people who actually own everything:
May: 6.3 🟡
July: 6.6 🟠
August: 7.2 🟢
The PBTWI™ is flashing green.
Inflation Is Different When You Own the Inflating Assets
For most Americans, inflation means a paycheck buys less. For the ultra-wealthy, inflation is practically a business model. When your wealth lives in businesses, stocks, real estate, gold, and art, monetary expansion simply inflates your balance sheet. The guy in Ohio wonders why beef is expensive; the guy at Swifty’s wonders if his estate is now worth $32 million or $35 million. Same inflation, completely different experience.
The Swifty’s Signal
The evidence is everywhere: full tables, institutional-grade handbags, robust jewelry deployment, elevated Bentley density, and a thriving matrimonial marketplace.
A trophy wife is a long-duration luxury asset with substantial carrying costs—housing, travel, maintenance capex, and the occasional high-end legal disposition fee. When wealthy men get nervous, this ecosystem shrinks. Right now, it’s expanding. 🥂
Enter Operation Twist 2.0
Washington’s latest maneuvers—whether you call it QE, market support, or liquidity management—send a clear signal. More liquidity eventually flows into hard assets. The asset owners at Swifty’s have seen this movie before: stocks, real estate, and collectibles rise, eventually spilling over into yachts, Ferraris, and Palm Beach wedding rings. Trickle-down economics may be debated, but trickle-down liquidity is observable.
The Running Numbers
May 2026 (6.3 🟡): Post-season caution. Handbags strong, wine orders weakening.
July 2026 (6.6 🟠➡️🟢): Political uncertainty temporarily disturbed the Brazilian Court farm team, but underlying confidence held firm.
August 2026 (7.2 🟢): Liquidity expectations rising. Asset-owner confidence improving. Matrimonial risk appetite expanding.
We aren’t at a manic 9.5—nobody is financing a fourth yacht with a HELOC yet—but risk appetite is unmistakably back.
Two Americas, One Money Printer
While the rest of the country asks, “How do I afford this?”, Palm Beach asks, “What do I buy before the money loses value?” That is the defining divide: earning dollars versus owning assets denominated in dollars.
Johnny Depth’s August Reading
The Palm Beach Player Research Institute is upgrading its outlook.
PBTWI™: 7.2/10 — GREEN 🟢
Trend: Rising 📈
Liquidity Expectations: Bullish
Luxury Indicators: Bentley count elevated | Handbag index strong | Trophy-wife confidence expanding
Washington Monetary Sobriety: Negligible 💸
The ultra-wealthy aren’t preparing for austerity; they’re positioning for asset inflation. Markets lie and economists revise, but liquidity always shows up at Swifty’s. 🍸
See you next month,
