Not a willow

what will you witness?
after all that matters falls pale upon the sideways wall below
will you wonder whether the sky can stand behind your wild mind
or whether the clouds can billow up to become
what dreams unsung we may have brung to yeet into the void
after all that you witness
will you wither under the strain of a new day
will you incline toward the hill
and gather force for fierce
brave laziness
or toward the grave paste
accounts held
named and paid
species defined
Quercus Virentes
Salix Babylonica
live oak
weeping willow
will you stand strong and bend all at once
will you show the sproutlings how to weather strange seasons
to fill our cells with flowing crystal
making every one jelly
to dance with abandon in torrents of chaos under blankets of sun
will you kill to eat but kindly with grace
will you see eyes in a leaf and munch kale’s woody face
rather lastly, will you exume the tumors of mind
zoom down through the best and worst ways
wombs have borne us to bathe
in daylight and moonglow, to brush
rainbows on the azure canvas, to break
and to bear beauties beyond and beside us
will you witness
or withness?
we will the shape of things
we will what drapes upon our souls
we till the pain of yesterday
until the blade dulls and the curtains close,
until the fallen watcher waiting in the deep
well cries out “More popcorn, free refill!”
we will the next act off the screen
into raw, natural being
we play in the play in the field
we know Ourstory as what we allow ourself to feel
standing oak strong
easy bending willow
folding into the song
dreams we will allow
Hala, the walking tree
