The SECOND I open an email or social post and see that it was written by AI (because we can all see that immediately, right?!) I X out. I can’t help it. I know we’re all busy, and AI takes tasks off our plate, but I am so flipping tired of reading the same content over and over and over.
But don’t get me wrong. If you read a LinkedIn post or an email newsletter written by me in early 2025, you’ll see I was totally guilty. I would feed my long-winded idea into the chat and BOOM! Magic.
But then everyone started doing it, and we all started sounding the same, and it was like “Wait.. is this how I write, or is this how AI writes?”
Now I CRAVE errors. I want to know someone is behind the keyboard sharing their real, unique ideas. But I’m far from ANTI-AI…(aside from the water usage, climate impact, privacy issues, and the fact that it’s stealing all of our thoughts and ideas… but it’s here, and it’s not going anywhere).
By Wednesday afternoon, I can’t even look at my inbox. I’m scrolling through to see if anyone SUPER important has messaged me. All the rest will get my attention at some point. Or they’ll fade into the inbox black hole, never to be seen again… until I wake up at 3 am one Sunday morning thinking, OMG, I NEVER RESPONDED TO THEM!
I’m playing around with scheduled inbox scans in Claude to help me stay on top of specific pitches that hit my inbox. I’ve also used it to comb through my inbox when I’m working on specific pitches to find popular themes, create a list of editors or journalists I’ve talked to, or find specific experts.
This is an area I’m most excited to keep experimenting with. Maybe some day I’ll hit inbox zero… or at least “inbox less than 500”
I am not using AI to write my articles. I am also not using AI to edit my articles. I am, however, using AI to identify the areas I need to address. I’ll ask it to read my article and help me make it more concise, identify areas where I didn’t fully explain a thought, or suggest ways to improve the flow when I’m stuck. Then I read its suggestions and use my judgment on whether to implement them or not.
As someone who can get REALLY long-winded and overexplain things, this has been really helpful in adjusting sentence structures and ideas to make a point without changing how I write.
Using Claude’s connectors has been a HUGE help. I recently had it organize my Canva account, which I have been using with ZERO organization since 2019. Now, everything is neatly organized into folders for my blog, social media, digital products, and more. This would have taken me days (and I never would have actually done it).
I’ve also been using it a lot to analyze data and report themes so I can use my time better. It’s helped me understand common themes among hooks and titles for newsletters that have higher open rates, understand where to spend my networking and pitching time, and create Notion templates and spreadsheets to better organize my tracking systems and projects.
I’m sharing this because we’re IN the age of AI, and there’s no point in not using it. But we need to stop using it as our brain and start using it as an assistant. These are my thoughts anyway.. I’d love to hear yours!
