Dear friends,

Today is my 37th birthday! I’m not sure why 37 sounds so much older to me than 36, but it absolutely does. I’ve officially entered my “late 30s” and I’m really not sure how I feel about that? Really good, I think???? Here’s to still struggling with acne and not injecting things into my face and crow’s feet that kind of look like winged eyeliner :)

The Virgo rising in me thought about writing the “37 reasons I decided to go back to grad school” for today’s issue (last year I did the 36 reasons I don’t want kids), but I really didn’t feel like writing a full essay today because honestly I’d rather hear from YOU. Without going too deep in the weeds, while I have fully emerged from my pit of despair that was spring 2025-26, this newsletter is kind of balancing on a cliff of financial sustainability at the moment. I “rebranded” (for a second time 😬) a few months ago, and as a result I’ve reached a place emotionally where *I* am feeling SO GOOD about writing this newsletter again, so much so that I’m churning out issues 3x per week without really breaking a sweat, but I truly have no idea how it’s working out for you, the readers.

Today’s voice note is ✨free✨ for everyone to listen to, and it’s basically just me spilling my very unfiltered guts about what I have loved so much about this newsletter, plus an idea I’ve been spinning out about while reading Rick Rubin’s book, The Creative Act, and where I’m at with trying to balance the art + commerce aspects of this newsletter. It’s more of a mini podcast because somehow it’s 17 minutes long, sorry! 🥲

Not to start ringing alarm bells, but the main thesis statement of today’s voice note is that if I can’t stop the slow drip exodus of paid subscribers that has been haunting me since returning from my honeymoon last summer, this newsletter maaaaaaaaay eventually have to more or less disappear or *radically* reduce its publishing cadence. For some reason my heart isn’t heavy about this because I have a delusional optimism that I’ll (we’ll) figure it out before that happens 😎

If you’re willing to share a little bit about your experience here, I would be ridiculously grateful. I don’t have any pennies for your thoughts, as pennies seem to have gone the way of the dinosaur (what a time to be alive), but I do have a free month of a paid subscription to comp you if you feel compelled to fill out my 2026 reader survey, just don’t forget to leave me your email address at the end. (The free month applies to both free and paid subscribers! Come one, come all!!)

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am so lucky and privileged to have readers who care enough to read my writing at all! xxxxxx
