Hello Foxes,
Let’s start with the fun part: Everfire’s Operation Magic School edition cover is finished!
Well, I say finished. Since I’m the artist, I can theoretically continue messing with it until it goes to print. BUT I’ve been working on letting things go over the past couple of years – not polishing and polishing and polishing until I’m not even sure what I’m doing and am increasingly certain the art/story will never be fit for public consumption.
Make the thing, share it in the spirit with which it was made. That’s the goal. No creative work is ever perfect, and it’s hubristic to think it can be. I’ve kept so many pieces and poems and stories to myself over the years because of the ‘what if it’s not good enough’ fear. Well, so what if it isn’t? I have never once looked at a piece of art, even one I didn’t like, and thought it shouldn’t have been shared for what it is.
Perhaps pride should be more in the sharing and less in the making.
Anyway, all that is is to say I’m pleased to show you the cover:
I can’t wait to see it next to the Darkhaven special ops edition on my shelf. Well, now I have to mock that up for you.
If you too would like these pretty books on your shelf, follow the Kickstarter campaign and be the first to know when it goes live. (Not long now!)
If you’re interested in more stunning books from Kickstarter, here’s a collection of fantasy titles that might pique your interest. Honestly, it truly is the most fun way to buy books - support an indie author, get all sorts of perks like exclusive content, swag and bonus goodies, and be a real part of the creative process. Do yourself a favour and see what you find!

Yes, writing is happening too!
I’m some way into the final book in the Cursed Princes saga, and I have a terrible feeling this one is going to be longer than planned.
Friend, it was already planned to be longer. And yes, these are short books, but the whole point was a series of novellas, short reads that dig deep into a particular aspect of a relationship and how it intersects with fairy tale violence, so when I say ‘longer’, it’s not going to be what Mary Robinette Kowal calls Brandon Sanderson’s books (chihuahua killers). But still. It might escape novella territory.
Oh well. Can’t cut a good heist short!
Yes, it’s a twisted Rapunzel (what if the princess in the tower doesn’t want to be rescued) with a heist. And a desperate scheme to save the world from fairy wrath and continued war. And a massive cast because all the rebel princes and their respective partners are back together.
Can I finish the draft by the end of July? We’ll see.
As the Everfire Operation Magic School campaign approaches, I’ll be sharing more Kickstarter events with you because a) they’re such fun and b) you can see what the fuss is all about!
Looking for a smorgasbord of stories? Look no further than this collection of fantasy romance anthologies by emerging fantasy authors, including To Steal A Rogue’s Heart featuring yours truly!
I’ll be back soon with the Kickstarter launch! Follow it now if you haven’t yet, and be prepared for Polls about superhuman magic.
More on that next time.
Read and be weird,
Kel
