Keith Rohman · The Arc of the Swing

I try not to repeat posts, but the Dodgers trip to the White House this week is so nauseating I can’t put it behind me. Back in February, when the trip was first announced I wrote a post called, “Shame on the Dodgers.” Everything in there still applies.

The harsh truth is baseball has as much romance as a casino. There is no public interest/social justice theme here in this game owned by corporations and billionaires.

And now we have the LA Times revelation that “two insurance companies controlled by [Dodgers Chairman Mark] Walter, as well as Guggenheim Partners, where Walter is chief executive, are being investigated by federal prosecutors for potential financial improprieties.” Surprise!

The only Dodgers who stayed home were Kike Hernández and Mookie Betts and neither wanted their actions to look like a protest. I don’t know how the rest of the Dodgers felt, but take a look just over Trump’s left shoulder. Looking at the expressions on Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages’ faces, it is hard to think they are proud and happy at this moment.

I know I am not.

I am ashamed for the Dodgers and for Los Angeles.
