The HOWLROUND Tarot ∴ Part One

“Disolver∴Eco∴Resonar as a Tarot Reading”

The main spread largely revolves around the Howlround, the “triadic formula” and trans-positional equation of Hauntomancy.

“The Triadic Formula of Disolver∴Eco∴Resonar, or the HOWLROUND, forms the spine of Hauntomantik ritual, and thus undergirds the active manifestation of Hauntomancy. This formula does not function as linear dogma, but rather as a spiral of becoming, anchoring the recursive hauntology of self.

Each ∴ phase maps to one point on the Troikatych:
Disolver aligns with the Spektre: destruction, undoing, initiation.
Eco resonates through the Aspektre: intuition, pattern, subtlety.
Resonar embodies the Prospektre: emergence, revelation, creation.”

I will also use the Gheiszt Phase of the Spektre, Aspektre and Prospektre to formulate the temporal observations of this piece as a whole—with the SPEKTRE connoting the initial conjuration, the ASPEKTRE reflecting both Elena and my observations after casting, and the PROSPEKTRE expressing the observations since months past.

Since this is a continuing experiment in adaptation and integration of the Howlround, I implore any and everyone to utilize their own rubric. Pip cards could be easily be transposed within (albeit a bit more granular, if you allow it). Reversals could also be attributed for cautionary or leveled readings, allowing for deeper introspection—either within the cards themselves or across the reading as a whole.

As with any reading, a liminal rite is prepared to clear the space and focus the intent. In this case, I utlized my “ritual bath” rite I’ve established within my personal Divergent Magick Grimoire.

Some background: I had just come home from a rare night out with my partner and childhood friend and had a preternatural gust for an entire cleanse and altar re-calibration. I have a meditative liminal rite within my Divergent Magick Grimoire I constitute as an overview for any pre-ritual application. Just the same—if you were to utilize this spread—you would “add your usual” or your own divergent liminal rite beforehand. This primes the whiskers and stiffens the antennae, if you want to be spooky about it. It primes the mind into meditative focus, if you wanna be square about it.

In front of my home altar (as opposed to my Dimming Room altars), I prepped the deck by radical shuffling. When that felt appropriate, I shuffled the deck seven times and cut it with my left hand.
Why? I don’t know—it’s just something I’ve always done when dealing Tarot…

I decided this would be a stasis reading, or a general reading assisting in calibration. I also felt it would be a rather pragmatic one, as I was in such a psychic resonance after cleansing the hearth that I subconsciously expected this one would be relative to that mindset.

The following spread will generally utilize the quick summaries of the deck provided by The Tarot of Gradation’s insert booklet, as well as general or nominal ideas of the archetypal natures of the cards. For the sake of illustration, I won’t go too far into my own anarchic understanding or deconstruction of the Trumps.

Elena (on reversals):
I didn't design the TOG to be read with reversals, though obviously you should do whatever's best for your practice. Instead, I encapsulated the range of potential meanings for each card in the whole. No mud, no lotus and what have you. It follows the Thoth tarot in that way and in many others.

This card asks to connect a desire to its finding and, for the rest of the spread, to look beyond and behind it. This is usually the hardest card, as it requires brutal honesty. It also reminds the reader of a subject or vector that is anchored so hard to a desire that it asks you to set it aside for the moment to gain an outside viewpoint. Usually, the sequence will help support the Disolver by allowing it space.

Depending on intention, this is the most tricky. I suggest pulling the full spread to understand the place this card occupies.

Card Pulled: Ace of Discs

General Meaning: New beginnings and opportunities, particularly in the realm of material wealth, stability, and personal well-being.

Aspektre:
Perhaps this yearning for dynamic change and new beginnings—as well as material wealth—is becoming too consuming. Dissolve emotional baggage and start living your life to the fullest?

Elena:
For you, Keats, the Ace of Disks in the Disolver position could mean acknowledging practical concerns related to creative projects—perhaps ones you've yet to refine—or big/essential changes in your material conditions. Alternatively, it could point to something personal related to the Ace of Disks calendar cycle, which occurs around March 21st–June 20th every year.

Prospektre: Considering both the months since this reading and Elena’s wonderful insight, I am struck with the idea of material resonance that was so heavy at that time. My darlin’ and I had just accepted that a full Portland relocation would happen in the fall, and at the same time I was struggling exceptionally hard with finances and thankless, exhaustive full-time job. I knew leaving the job was always the plan, but the timeline just never allowed for such escape. That is until Portland became a major player in futurecasting—and then my employment and financial status quo would meet its end sooner than later. But I needed to let go of the ‘quo immediately. I needed to dissolve the tryst of entrapment that I couldn’t transcend within by ultimately leaving the safety of full-time employment altogether.

This is the call-to-arms to syncopate and charge. Perhaps you are already doing what the card suggests—then the next card is even more applicable. If the sequence is unfavorable, then perhaps doing the opposite of this card is nominal.

Card’s cursory attributes:
The kind of energy needed to complete your work. Points to determination, focus, and the ability to stick with a task no matter how boring it may seem.

Aspektre:
Time to punch the earth with my forehead and keep on keepin’ with all factions—instead of trying to deconstruct and retool?

Elena:
To act as the Prince of Disks does, consider moving to where you can be most effective and realize practical ideas in your realm(s) of intellectual expertise. This can look like planned, pattern-forming repetition of proven methods to accomplish your ends, and perhaps the nimble adaptation of those methods to changing conditions.

Prospektre: After some deep introspection and guidance from a dear friend and mentor within the industry, I had resolved a plan to jump to freelancing even sooner than I had imagined when the autumnal move became evident! This was to allow months of freelance footing while still local to Seattle and schedule autonomy while I transitioned. This would have sounded ulterior to the Spektre of self who pulled this card during that stressful time, and I find it humorous that the path would be antithetical to the sequence I originally felt imprisoned by which was “work more for as long until move.”

If a greater desire is becoming so hardened it's getting in its own way, then see past it and punch the dynamics of the undersung magnets that pulse. Doing this could resolve in the Resonar’s card.

Cursory attributes: Romance, charm, and idealism. A passionate and sensitive individual, often driven by emotion.

Aspektre Thoughts:
The Knight of Cups is generally the card most attributed to my personage; it’s all too obvious that the resonance I wish to leave haunting on would be one of romantic creation and blunderbuss creativity. But the true source that spurns or spurs this ability is my emotional state.
Punching forth with pragmatic implementations within the not-so-flashy parts of a stasis is the needed half to resolve as the passionate individual I can be!?

Elena:
The Prince of Cups rewards the practitioner with humility and poetry in language. Perhaps this means the intuited knowledge arising from your ritual actions will require some time sloshing around in the ol’ goblet before it takes form. The important thing may be to feel the revelatory whim before analyzing what it means in conceptual terms.

Prospektre: Once dissolving that preconceived inevitable, that an unexpected and largely unequipped jump to freelancing would need to echo, the revelation necessary change and the ability to actually work more outisde the ensnared full-time suffer-sequence I had been on the past year will’d out! I have just recently been able to excise the position I felt ensnared with and still work consistently as freelancer while allowing the choice of when to work.

Card’s cursory attributes:
Symbol of a sharp mind, good communication skills, and a love for learning and intellectual pursuits. Mental clarity; need to ensure ideas are translated into action.

Aspektre:
I must wear the garb of my Virgo rising to meet the moon in my sun and the sun in my heart! Time to act the part of a pragmatic and poised practitioner to better resolve the King of Cups resonance.

Elena:
If this is the comportment of the practitioner in the ritual, then commit your plan to memorization so the magical will may exact itself unimpeded. The Prince of Swords brings conscious attention to efforts as they’re executed—intentional speech, precise use of tools.

RITUAL
→ The dynamics of divergent magick and ritual creation applied to the spread.

Card Pulled: Princess of Discs

General Meaning:
Material security, building a strong foundation, long-term goals, career stability, and connection to the earth.

Initial Thoughts:
I must create a rite that focuses and radiates within a strong foundational aspect—even though not necessarily corporeal, as my foundations may shift. But wearing the garb of a pragmatic Revelator to confirm and focus hearth with my partner is necessary.

Elena:
There is finality to this card that may bear some consideration. What is ending for you, and how can the organic matter this produces nourish your future flourishing?

In your reading, there is a consortium of princes—a podcast if you will—gathered in Tiphareth. These guys want nothing more than to exchange ideas, and they benefit from doing so, but the missing element—fire—will rally them to action. What is it?
