Hello, my Favorite VIP Readers!

Earlier in the week, I found myself looking at four open document files, all books I’m working on in the four series under four different personas. Have to admit, I panicked…just a little bit.

Honestly, when I came out of my medically induced hiatus a couple of years ago, I was happy just to be writing again. My brain is working. My muse is happily dancing through plotlines, waving her magic wand and weaving stories, like I’m back in my thirties (no need to calculate how long ago that’s been) and just starting to think about writing as a career.

I do still remember the excitement. The thrill. The creativity.

I guess I didn’t realize how much my health affected my brain activity until I ripped off the band-aid. I mean, I knew it was happening, even if I couldn’t find a way to get around it.

Anyhoo…back to ripping off that bandaid and my bit of panic.

My muse seems to have gone feral when I wasn’t watching. Some days, I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I’m thinking “good.” At least today. It is wonderful to be writing every day. For instance, this newsletter has become a real pleasure, something I look forward to each week. My creative self is happy, even if a bit frenetic. All of a sudden, after years of struggling, I’m publishing again.

I didn’t stop writing during my “downtime.” I easily have a dozen stories I can finish up rather quickly, the way I’m writing these days. Well, relatively quickly. There are a limited number of hours in each day. And the stories keep blooming in my head almost daily.

I do have a writer friend who keeps lobbing new stories at me like affirmation chocolates, bless her heart! Thank you, I think, Becky. <grin>

Hence, the source of my panic. I can’t possibly write them all. Have I ever mentioned that I already have over 75 stories in my TBW (to be written) folder? This is when I need that computer that plugs into my brain at night, so I can dump stories onto the page, clean them up, and get them to you faster. It’s not AI if it’s coming from my brain, right?

I tend to be a “long” writer, as many of you know. My goal this year is to find a way to tell the stories more quickly. Time will tell if I manage this miracle after years of habit. I’m laying odds there will be more brief moments of panic. Here’s hoping I can find a better balance with my feral muse.

There she goes again…dang!

Let me take notes on this story idea before I dash off to write…something.

Happy Reading!

Recommend Author Karen Docter & K.L. Docter’s Meanderings to your Besties!
Karen Docter writes contemporary romance and romantic comedy under her own name, and romantic suspense as K.L. Docter. A book lover, she spotlights books of most genres on her Karen’s Killer Book Bench & Killer Fixin’s blogs and her newsletter, Docter’s House of Books & Meanderings. When she’s not hanging with her own personal hero, a persnickety Border Collie, and a flock of chickens that “sing” really loud every morning, she’s living her best life reading and writing lakeside on the South Carolina coast.

Recommend Karen Docter's Meanderings

Women hunted by killers…men who’d die to protect them. K.L. Docter’s psychological romantic suspense novels are filled with romance, although the dangers the hero and heroine face are intense…usually because a serial killer is bent on ending one or both of their lives. You’ll find romance, danger, justice, and a happily ever after between these pages!

Romantic Suspense at It's Best

Romance with a kick of humor. Karen Docter’s romantic comedies and contemporaries are spicy-sweet hometown-hero romances filled with warmth, love, family, and happily-ever-afters. You might even laugh out loud.
