Hey huns,
Friday is upon us once again! I hope you have had a happy week. I’d love to make your week a little happier, as I’ve included a cheeky sale to see us through the weekend. Deets are below xo
I went to the Kerry James Marshall exhibition again this week (am I already plotting another visit? Absolutely). For the first time, I actually listened to the audio guide provided and it was so useful, lol. I should probably do that more often.
On my way to the Royal Academy it started pouring, so I took shelter in Zimbabwe House and ended up looking around at the sculptures they were displaying. A small, unexpected treat before the main event.
In the week, I also went to an event hosted by a very established institution (which shall remain nameless), and I honestly felt like I’d been catfished. It was the kind of event that looks glossy in the promo materials but turns out to be no vibes and no substance.
It made me realise I’ve been to a few events like that recently; things that sound brilliant in theory, but the reality refuses to meet the ambition. Maybe I’m not as annoyed as I could be because I’ve usually been out anyway, so the disappointment gets folded into a bigger day. But still. I want better for myself.
I really enjoyed Scott Evans’ House Guest episode with Yvonne Orji this week. It was warm, funny and just the right amount of chaotic (which, in this case, is a lot!). You can watch it here.
I had a lovely chat with Angela Lyons on her podcast Creatives Like Us. We spoke about early influences, the work I’m trying to make now, and the kinds of projects I’d love to do in the future. The episode will be out next year, God willing.
I read a couple of books this week, one being A Little Theology of Exercise by David Mathis. It’s essentially a small reflection on exercise as a form of spiritual practice and how movement shapes discipline and gratitude. It was very clear and informative. Will it help me finally leave my house on these cold, dark mornings for regular runs?
Your guess is absolutely as good as mine.
I don’t usually do Black Friday anything. Historically, I mind my business and let the day pass me by. But this year, there happens to be one concert, one play, and one craft kit calling my name with unnecessary volume.
So in the spirit of honesty, community, and enabling each other’s joy, I thought… you know what? Let me run a likkle discount.
If you pick something up, just know you’re supporting my cultural enrichment and my ongoing battle to finally own that craft kit. A noble cause, really.
