One of the most asked questions when I had my baby was: do you have a nanny? I didn’t grow up with one, so the concept was a little new to me. But once I had my son, it felt like everyone was asking.
We did invest in a night nurse, which was truly heaven on earth, best money we spent! But we only had her for three months, and then she was gone and it was just the three of us. We don’t have family close by, and honestly, most of my friends don’t have kids yet, so the idea of asking any of them for help felt a little unfamiliar. Mostly, though, I just wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to have help with him during the day. Looking back, I think that’s maybe a first time-mom thing, I felt like I didn’t want to miss days with him, and my husband and I were handling it well enough on our own. It was a lot, but we had him on a good schedule, and since we both work from home and for ourselves, we just juggled it all day long. It was beautiful. It was also chaotic. But we did it.
