Hey look, that's my work over there in the top left! This is from the opening night reception at Cloud Tree Gallery, where I drank wine with my friends and rubbed elbows with other artists and one famous film director, and sold a piece of art! There are many pieces still available, if you want to go browse the show. I believe there's about a week left.
I pulled a collection from my stash of work, and then added a few new ones, and it turned out to be very Texan. Mostly because the other options were Halloween and my upcoming Vessels & Portals show, and those themes are already booked for shows.
This bison turned out to be a favorite. It sat on a shelf in my studio half finished for over a year, and then I finished it in one night. I've been in the studio a lot late at night recently, because it's a converted garage with a window unit AC, and it's summer in Texas. Today it was 106 out there and I had to go outside, unfortunately. I'm still recovering.
In other news, my website got a very belated update thanks to my wonderful friend Laura. Paintings are finally featured! Check it out at katiemakesart.com
One thing that still needs to be updated is the photos of me working. It's surprising how often I am asked for headshots or environmental portraits for promo, and I never have a recent one. The cobbler's children are barefoot, after all. But I've booked an appointment to have a tintype taken the night after I turn 40 in a couple weeks! I've always wanted one, I have a gift card, and 40 seems like reason enough to celebrate.
Other milestones- October 1st is my 11 year anniversary for Killer Queen Designs! I'm looking forward to fall, both for cooler temps, and with the hopes that business picks up. In 11 years of doing this full time, this has been the hardest year ever. If you know a small business owner, give them a hug and support their business however you can- buy something! Share their work with your friends! Feed them!
Iggy is also ready for fall. She likes wearing sweaters. Also holding seances.
