The New York Times provides a valuable frame by frame analysis of video showing that a shotgun was fired just before an alert uniformed officer managed to return 5 rounds which missed the sprinting gunman.
Most telling is the video at the bottom of the article which shows there was no reaction from guests on the dais during the incident. They must have reacted when Secret Service agents entered to secure top-level officials.
My favorite take on the incident. “What is the best evidence that the gun incident at the correspondents’ dinner wasn’t staged? No one put an insider bet on Kalshi or Polymarket.”
