*A note to readers: Out of all the 50+ conversations I’ve had on the Eternal Echoes podcast so far, this one with Juliet Dawn may have been one of the most powerful.
Juliet’s story is marked by profound grief, unimaginable loss, and season after season of suffering. Yet woven through every chapter is a testimony of God’s faithfulness, redemption, and sustaining grace.
As she shared her journey, I found myself deeply moved (and ministered to)—not just by what she endured, but by the hope and wisdom forged through the fire.

Juliet Dawn is British singer-songwriter and former X Factor contestant. Over the past 35 years, she has faced profound challenges, including a decade in a difficult marriage, four miscarriages, and the devastating loss of her twin boys, Louis and Elliot, following a pioneering in-utero operation.
She has also survived poisonous spider bites, a car crash while pregnant with her eldest son, and two nervous breakdowns. Yet through it all, Juliet’s faith has remained her anchor…
Well, for anyone who’s out there going through stuff that you just think is never going to come to an end and you’re questioning God, one thing I would categorically say is there isn’t a Bible character who God had purpose for, who wasn’t tested, who wasn’t refined in the fire, whose story isn’t remarkable.
There’s no ordinary person who had an extraordinary calling. If you’re going through something crazy, it’s probably because God’s got plans for your life. And He’s seeing how you respond. Where’s your faith?
You know, the Bible is full of direction on how to come through the hard times. And sometimes it’s by speaking out truth. When Jesus was in the wilderness, He didn’t bat the enemy off with a stick. He didn’t use karate. He literally had the Word of God on his lips. That was it.
So sometimes you have to watch what’s in your mouth and on your lips, and you have to speak out truth. Because the power of life and death is in the tongue.
So that’s one thing you can do, you can ask God for a rhema word, which I had to do. I had to hold on to certain words that I just believed were for me that resonated in my spirit.
Because your spirit doesn’t go through all the things that our soul and our body does. And so if you just can get it into your spirit, your spirit can hold onto it for you and feed it into your body and your soul.
But for me, I had an incredibly blessed, childhood, upbringing, formative years in a Christian home with Christian parents who were leaders. And so my roots were strong and deep. And so although my tree was shaking and the leaves were falling off, my roots were strong.
And so I would say to people out there, you know, find your deep roots. If you haven’t got deep roots, then find people who can prop up your tree. Surround yourself with people who speak positive words, who speak truth and hope and faith.
Because otherwise, if you haven’t got deep roots and you haven’t got people around you to hold your tree up, then yeah, you’re going to be in danger of falling.
These are just some tips I’m giving because, after suffering trauma over like 35 years, I’ve had to use a lot of different things.
Another thing is to start your day off with good habits. Take all your negativity to the cross. Start by blessing your body and blessing your mind and your soul.
I had to find plenty of time to just rest, rest, rest. Listen to your body and don’t fight through everything because sometimes, God’s just calling you to the side. Sometimes you just can’t carry on.
And one of the wisest things my mum ever said to me was, ‘I’m not going to let you indulge your negative words or your negative thoughts. She said, ‘Because it would be so easy to let you go down to the bottom of that pit and have yourself a pity party.’
She said, ‘The devil will be the first one to bring the tea and the cakes and the party hats and he’ll be there blowing whistles as well.’ So she was like, ‘I’m not going to let you have a pity party.’
I mean, we can’t tell God anything that He doesn’t already know. So when we’re going through tough times, He wants us to pray to Him. But not shouting at Him like, ‘Don’t you see my circumstances!?’ He knows.
Just look at Job and David and Elijah and everybody who He had purpose for, had a crazy story. But the pity party is no good for anybody. The devil’s clapping his hands.
But it’s just, when you’re at the bottom, bottom, bottom, it’s so much harder to get up. You need people around you, like I said holding up that tree, speaking words of wisdom, holding up your arms, being able to say you have purpose, that you’re blessed, speaking to your faith and encouraging you.
And I could say I was blessed because I believed that there was purpose for my life. I believed the Bible was true. I knew that Jesus died on the cross and that the story of the biblical story of salvation and eternity was true.
So it’s like, it would have been very hard for me to throw the towel in because it would have had to mean that everything I believed was true, wasn’t.
So I still believed it was true, but it was the reconciling…how can I reconcile for God so loved the world? And Jesus died on the cross, okay, and for all my sin, all my sickness, iniquities, how can I reconcile that with what I’m going through?
But you know, Job is my ally in this because he went through the worst times, but God allowed it because the devil wanted to test him. But God blessed him in the second half of his life more than in the first. So I believe there’s always counter blessing.
And if we can spend some of that energy that would be on pity and on crying out and instead blessing ourselves for sevenfold restitution and for restoring what the locusts have eaten, because the Bible says the power of life and death is in the tongue.
So we can speak out our birthright and our blessing and the destiny for our lives. We can speak to our destiny and it’s such a better place to put our energy when we’re really, really, really going through tough times.
Well, you know, just like the Godhead is three in one – we have God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Well, we are three in one. We are our physical body, which physically feels pain.
We are our soul, which is our mind, our feelings, our heart, all those things. And we feel so much pain in our soul, which can also get thrown off onto the physical. In fact, most physical pain comes in some way, shape or form from the body reflects the soul pain quite often.
But the spirit is what was created before the soul and the body. It’s eternal. That’s the part that carries the breath of God and has this eternal connection.
The spirit is what’s gonna go forward. The spirit has got God’s thumbprint on it. You know, the spirit partners with the Holy Spirit. And so we don’t age in the spirit. And we are separate in the spirit from those woes of life that we carry in the soul and then get thrown off onto the body.
So if we can engage our spirit – that’s where we need to engrave these rhema words that are for us.
You know, it’s interesting. When I was quite a bit younger and I was listening to Arthur Burke talk about spirits, he would often go, ‘I’m calling your spirit to the front.’
And you don’t know your spirit’s there until someone actually talks to it. And that’s what we did with Leo in the womb as well. We talked to his spirit because his spirit was eternal. He didn’t really have a developed soul or a developed body, but he was complete in the spirit, which is why we were able to speak to him in the womb.
Similarly, when you grasp something in the spirit, separate from the torment, the turmoil and the pain and the grief and sorrow and troubles of your soul, then it can feed the truth into your soul and into your physical being because that’s where the eternal stream is.
And sometimes even just remembering and recognizing that on a daily basis can be very encouraging to our soul because if we can know that there is part of us that remains undamaged, that is connected to eternal stream, that doesn’t need healing, but it just needs awakening to minister to the rest of us.
And if you haven’t got mature Christian people in your life, and you are someone who’s going through immense struggles, get people to talk to and bless your spirit.
It is so powerful to say, ‘You are blessed, you will come through this, God honors who you are.’ Your spirit will be just leaping inside going, that’s me, that’s me, that’s the undamaged part of me!
It’s just so important that we recognize and validate that part of who we are. Because like I said, that’s the eternal part. That’s the undamaged part. It can minister to us.
And some days when I could barely put one foot in front of the other, I didn’t actually know what living out of the spirit meant. But in my imagination, I just had to try and live that out, like, okay, I’m damaged, my body’s struggling, my soul’s in pain, I’m going to just try and let my spirit take the lead. And it can strengthen us so much.
You can also tell your spirit to keep guard with the Holy Spirit and the Father as you sleep. Sometimes that can be a key to help. I used to say to my spirit, ‘I’m putting you in charge.’ Because I want my soul to rest and my body to rest, so spirit stay on guard.
And it’s a really powerful weapon of truth. It’s a real truth bomb. That can really help if you’re going through not just bad times, but when you’re compromised in so many ways by the ails and trials of life.
Jesus, truth, God the Father, the Holy Spirit, it’s like having a handrail. It’s like an anchor that takes you through your days. And when you’re so weak and you’re gonna fall in the slough of despond, or you’re gonna fall prey to giant despair, you need your handrail, you need your anchor, you need something that’s going to hold you up as you go.
And so every day make sure that you’ve got your handrail in place, whether that is making sure that the Holy Spirit’s with you to just strengthen you, whether that is speaking out your rhema word, your Bible passages, whatever that is — and envisioning Jesus carrying you or walking with you.
Whatever it is, make sure every day you’ve got your anchor and your handrail.
I would say the God that created you loves you. The God that created you in your three parts has purpose for your life. The God who made you wants you to partner with Him, to cry out to Him and to trust Him.
There is every instruction and advice and guarantee and covenant in the Bible to come through difficult times. And He just wants each and every one of us to find that personal relationship with Him that will allow Him to walk your life with you so that He can show who He is to you.
Because you will never ever see Him as a restorer unless you let Him restore you. You will never ever see Him as a redeemer unless you let Him redeem you. You will never ever see Him as your father unless you let Him father you.
And everything, all the names of God, He wants to show who He is to you by demonstrating that need and how He can meet that need in your life. But you have to be willing to surrender to each and every name that He carries so that He can deliver who He is into your life.
And we all go through deep things that can scar us mentally, emotionally, physically. Life most certainly is a journey, but we have just this one life in our mortal bodies to find the truth, to find Jesus, to find the Father, and to attain our eternal destination and salvation. And that’s all that really matters in this life.
This isn’t to trivialize what we go through, but it’s to say that what we experience in our mortal bodies is just a jot in time compared to eternity. And so we have to bear that in mind, you know.
We build treasures in heaven by overcoming, and by the good things that we do, and by finding the true path. And that’s what really, really counts.
There will always be contention. Like I said, every Bible character that had destiny, they had contention over their lives. They had trials. We have to understand the contention isn't because God doesn't care for us, it's because our lives count for something.
