Welcome to Kate Valentine - In Confidence
You’ve landed on my flagship publication The Year of the Cat here you’ll find literary erotica, essays, and collaborations with some of my favourite writers. I host Ask Kate Anything, where readers send me questions they’ve been too embarrassed to ask anyone else. Then there’s Unleash for my writers and creatives who need a sex-positive community to hone their craft and their kink - plus a host of resources to spice up just about every area of your life.
This is my first Postscript, a brief glimpse behind the curtain. This will be a look at how I write, what’s inspired me, a deep dive into desire and creativity too.
To be clear, this will be less about my craft and more about the flow. What goes through my mind before I put pen to paper. Maybe what feeling I am trying to convey too.
I want to make this feel like the kind of conversation you have with someone at four in the morning. When the light is beginning to change and you perhaps say things that you might regret, but that you know you need to say.
So expect these to be raw, and chaotic, but also very honest and vulnerable too.
Last week was a blur. I have been writing so much that quite a lot of the posts and my various projects are now all bleeding into one another, which is both interesting and also unnerving. It feels almost luxurious to pause with you for a beat and talk about my work in a more intimate way.
I spent last week rushing around getting all my loose ends tied up ahead of my up coming holiday to France. A frantic rush of last minute work projects and seeing people who needed to be seen, meaning my usual routine was a little out of whack.
And this meant I felt a bit like I was unravelling. It won’t come as a surprise that I love structure, I find it freeing. There is a sense of ease that comes with knowing exactly where the boundaries are and what is expected of you. It’s what I find appealing about being in a D/s dynamic with my lover too. Clear expectations. And consequences if they are not followed.
