When I first started building my platform, I didn’t expect to make so many incredible connections. I didn’t expect to grow so much in the past five months, but through that process I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many friends who have supported, encouraged, and cheered me on.
I need that cheering on now.
I am about 60% through the first draft of my memoir and have set a goal to complete that draft by the end of this month. Reaching this goal can’t happen while posting on social media and writing quips about Veggie Tales (although I wish the latter were true).
When I first started this five months ago, I would never have guessed that not one, but two editors would express interest in the full manuscript based on the proposal. To me, that’s the encouragement and confirmation that I need to give this writing season my full time and attention. To do that, I need to get that first, messy draft on paper, so I can refine it into something powerful.
I am so passionate about this story because I believe it speaks to how our current religious and government systems often fail to protect children, survivors, and the vulnerable. In today’s increasingly authoritarian and religious climate, my story is more relevant than ever.
Creative work like this is soul work. It needs my full, undivided attention. I am writing down some of the hardest things I have ever experienced. I need all of my creative and emotional energy in order to do this well, while also holding myself gently.
So, what does this all mean?
I will be stepping back from my biweekly Substack posts and Instagram and Threads posts
I’ll be stepping back from answering comments and DMS
When I return, I’ll be be pulling back from posting so often on Instagram, so that I can focus my attention on refining the book. I’ll be putting more of my energy into my Substack, so stay tuned.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for loving, reading, and supporting my work. It means more than you could ever know. I can’t wait to share more with you.
I’ll see you in beginning to mid-September <3. I grateful to have you along for the journey.
Wish me luck.
Love,
Kate
P.S. My Quips by Kate Etsy store for writers and church kids will remain open during this time. Thank you for your readership and support!
