Karson McGinley · Postcards from Within

It’s been so long since I’ve sent you a postcard!

So here’s a short update from Sitges, Barcelona

After a few months off social media (yay!) and a longer-than-expected time away from Substack (wah wah), I wanted to share a few things with you…

  • We are still living in Spain, loving our life in Sitges, and currently don’t have any plans in place for coming back to the States. Life feels slow, simple, intentional, and most importantly, safe. We’re in a lovely groove here, and are going to stay put a bit longer :)

  • I’m still teaching yoga at my favorite creative community space, the EMPWR, and have added a few private clients too! It feels so wonderful to be able to contribute in this way, especially doing something I love. Yet, I am intentionally keeping my schedule super light, so it feels like a treat to teach, rather than a “job”, or stressful in any way.

  • My Spanish is improving, poco a poco, little by little. I’m still taking Spanish class once a week in person, and my family is all involved in daily Duolingo for vocab and practice. (Though it’s not a replacement for real conversations, we are really liking Duolingo for the fun, game-like format, and the fact that all four of our accounts are linked, and we can have competitions and streaks based on our consistency.)

  • I’ve been teaching art once a week at the kids’ school for 4 months now, and it’s super fulfilling. Becoming an art teacher wasn’t on my radar in any way, but it’s become sort of a dream-come-true for my inner child :) Plus, I get to teach both Siena & Chase in the same class(!), with about 10 other kids who have chosen this as their elective. It’s such a gift. And maybe most importantly, it “forces” me to do a lot of art on my own— drawing, watercolor painting, collage, coloring with acrylic markers. When I started this Substack, I thought writing would be my chosen creative outlet, but it quickly became clear that making art was what really wanted to come through me. So cool to be discovering this artistic phase while living on the Mediterranean coast of Spain ;)

  • The kids are awesome and have gotten really into art as well, plus activities like parkour, roller skating, and drama. In December, Chase (who is almost as tall as me now!) performed in a play with his drama school (following in my footsteps, I suppose??). And Siena has become quite the little babysitter, helping out with our local friends’ cutie pie. It’s been so incredible watching them grow and develop this past year…

  • Next month, we venture to Marrakech, Morocco (that’s in AFRICA, for the record!!) for the kids’ winter break. It’s only a ~2 hour flight from Barcelona! Travel is still a big part of lives, though we’re also enjoying settling down a bit, and just letting ourselves get grounded.

There’s lots more to share, but that’s enough for now; I’ll leave you with a virtual hug, and lots of gratitude for following me on this journey. I hope this year brings you peace, love, and hope… and a collective revolution as well. My heart is with you and I would love to hear from you in the form of a comment below or a quick email!

In upcoming “postcards”, I am looking forward to sharing my word of the year and intentions for 2026, plus some artwork, travel adventures, and musings on how living abroad has transformed our lives over the last year. So if you’re interested, please be sure you’re subscribed to my (free) Substack!.

I’ll write again soon, wish you were here.

All my love XOXO
