I’m thrilled to announce that I’m currently working on an exciting new graphic novel project with Jake A Minton, but can’t reveal too much at this stage…
When faced with a deadline, as is the case with many authors, I have been distracted by a shiny new idea! This idea has sent me down many research rabbit holes. Or rather diving into the depths of Australian maritime museum websites! I have also been watching the program Shipwreck Hunters Australia.
During my research, I made the brilliant discovery of a graphic novel being used as part of an exhibition at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney!
A Graphic Tale of Shipwreck explores the 1837 wrecking of a whaling ship called South Australian.
‘Maritime archaeologists have partnered with virtual design experts in Germany to re-create the shipwreck as a stunning graphic novel and an immersive diving experience. These powerful depictions, plus actual artifacts from the shipwreck site, allow visitors to explore South Australian and reveal the historical and archaeological detective work that uncovered its story.’
This exhibition is only on until the 7th of September 2025, so if you are nearby, I suggest you get there quick smart to have a look. If you do, be sure to report back!

Read: The story of the wreck of South Australian is not a physical graphic novel at this stage. However creators are currently looking at avenues of publication. In the meantime, you can access issue 148 of the museum’s Signals Magazine online to learn more about this comic collaboration.
