Hello, it has been a little while… 4 months in fact have trundled on by since I last had the opportunity to type out my thoughts and musings.
In that time there has been life and work and writing of course. I recently finished a structural edit on my next graphic novel and have been enjoying the opportunity to help others in writing their own graphic novel manuscripts!
The 2026 / 2027 Australian Children’s Laureate was announced earlier this year and is none other than Andy Griffiths! Andy, with his highly illustrated Tree House series, he along with illustrator Terry Denton, have inspired generations of enthusiastic young readers. In my link below, you will be able to discover a little more about Andy and the way he is inspiring not just readers, but children’s creators as well.
In exciting graphic novel news, the CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) book of the year notables were announced last month. On the list of notables were five graphic novels! How brilliant is that?! Even more excitedly, my own debut graphic novel, Inked with Jake A Minton, was amongst the notable titles. The shortlist will be announced on March 31st and I will be watching with keen interest to see how many graphic novels make it through.

Read: Cici’s Journal by Joris Chamblain and Aurélie Neyret. This one was actually recommended to me some time ago by Jake A Minton, my apologies Jake for taking so long to share it here! Originally in French and translated into English, I did get my hands on a copy and loved the way notes, doodles and other visual paraphernalia were woven throughout. The illustrations are also truly beautiful.
Through journal entires and various collected items, Cici assembles clues about the odd and wonderful people in her life. She discovers an old man who disappears into the forest every Sunday with huge pots of paint in all sorts of colours. What is he up to? Why does he look so sad when he comes back?
