I’m fascinated by the way we project our hopes and fears into the future. It’s equally fascinating when these dates do produce events that synchronise with the predictions.
It’s a tender subject, because we all want to believe that our circumstances will continually improve. Most people are working really hard to keep positive and show up for our relationships, families and loved ones. We’re showing up at work and in our community groups. We have rent to pay, cars to keep on the road, fridges to fill. We have commitments and responsibilities to ourselves to maintain our physical and mental health, and most of us are also hoping to ‘achieve’ milestones while we are here too.
I’m going to call this mundane reality Saturn.I think of Saturn as the tempo, beat and groove in music, as bars that pass whether I am playing them or not. Music doesn’t care if I can make the chord changes in time to support the vocalist. Music is moving forward in time, existing in time, playing in time. Music is playing me and I am playing it.
In your ‘free time’ or your personal time do you dance? Do you sing and play music, or create works of creative self expression with wool, clay and fabric? Do you get lost in the swirling colours and endless potentials in Op shops and markets? Are your books novel doorways to alternative realities. Do you listen to bands you love, attend plant medicine ceremonies, transport yourself beyond in films? Are your dreams full of colours and mystery? Do you see shapes in the clouds? Allow your mind to wander on a sunset beach walk? Sail into the wild yonder with a backpack of mejool dates and dark chocolate? Suspend yourself in warm magnesium rich rockpools? Have afternoon naps in the sun?
I’m going to call this deep float Neptune. Neptune plays the melody slightly differently every time, an improvisation on an instrument so ethereal I can’t quite define it’s source.... a theremin, windchimes, a flute, a violin just out of ear shot. Neptune plays over the barlines, swooping up and down brand new scales. Neptune doesn’t know when to come in, or remember the ending. Neptune is concerned with the membrane between the score and the eardrum, the eardrum and brainfluid, the back of the heart, the fascia, Neptunes music moves fascia.
These two archetypes are meeting and it’s a slow dance, and it’s been building for months, some would say years. They have been chasing each other through the Pisces house of your natal chart and Neptune has recently stepped across the threshold into the Aries house.
We have a few more magical days where they are separated by sign and house, but it’s temporary.
Saturn is knocking on the Aries door too, and will take off his boots on Feb 14 for a 2.5 year stay.
We have our first 2026 eclipse season beginning now, the first eclipses are in Aquarius and Virgo on the upcoming lunations. They will each fall in an area of your natal chart that shows you where there is something completing and something new beginning.
We are due our next new moon at 28 degrees of Aquarius on 18 February at 1.01 am with the North Node conjunct Venus at 8 Pisces. This will happen before the Saturn / Neptune conjunction on Feb 21st NZT
If the nodal axis is within 14 degrees of the lunation it creates an eclipse. Eclipses happen in sets of 2 or 3 and these take place twice each year. Therefore this New Moon will be accompanied by an annular solar eclipse https://www.planetary.org/articles/what-is-an-annular-solar-eclipse
The second eclipse is taking place after the Saturn / Neptune conjunction.
Two weeks later around midnight of between March 3rd and 4th there will be a total Lunar eclipse visible in New Zealand accompanying the Full Moon at 12 degrees of Virgo on March 4th at 12:37am with the South Node at 8 Virgo.
Mercury will be retrograde during this full moon having stationed on the 26th. It will conjunct Venus several times during this retrograde including during the station. Renown Astrologers Rudhyar and Rael interpret this phase of the Mercury retrograde cycle as being final part, when we slow down listen deeply to messages arising from the unconscious that show us the next steps.
I’m looking forward to watching it all unfold. My prediction is that those of us who can Zoom out to witness the bigger picture will be given the gift of perspective. It will get easier to breathe through the waves of global contraction. We are realising we can do with less so we have fewer problems. We are leaning in to difficult conversations and forgiving ourselves and each other quicker. We are taking the necessary steps to channel our attention and our funding into grass roots organisations, creators and local businesses. In so doing we create strong communities that support us through life’s inevitable dramas.
We are pioneers and people of the earth. We are fire keepers, drummers and dancers. We are ocean lovers and protectors. We serve the plants, flowers and trees and they take care of us.
Thank you for reading and I definitely recommend listening to the audio version. I spent most of the day yesterday writing and recording it and the spoken word reading embellishes this written text. I added guitar, charango and flute along with a track of birdsong recorded in the early morning hours while camping in th Waikato over New Year.
