It's been a good half year since my last post, there are too many things to talk about, and so little time to structure my thoughts around those many topics.
This will not be a long post, but more of a "billet d'humeur", if you will. There's a trend lately where people are becoming more and more defensive towards "technology innovation", enshittification, big corps doing their capitalistic thing, and this all leaves a feeling of hopelessness and loss of control.
At my level, I've introducted "friction" by reducing voluntarily my presence on several social media outlets, removing a lot of convenience applications on my phone, adopting some digital minimalism practices, and reducing my reliance on technology - including SaaS offerings - while relying more and more on self-hosted services.
At the same time, there are a lot of great community projects. Today, for example, I learned about Meshtastic / Meshcore, two projects that allow people to communicate via peer-to-peer, LoRa based networks. I like the idea of breaking free from the corporate chains and relying on something built by the people, for the people.
I too, like many other peers - especially in the enterprise tech world, dream of living in a remote mountain farm, tending a heard of goats. And yet, I wouldn't put myself in the crowd of preppers. I'm not preparing for the impending apocalypse. I'm just fucking tired of the corporate greed, the endless spinwheel, the craving to always get the "last and best" tech widget. And maybe I'm also talking on behalf of many others.
