The Substack Playbook (and a massive thank you)

A year ago today, I had about 50 subscribers. 50 people who had chosen to read my work. I was stoked, and genuinely had so much fun writing knowing that I had 50 email inboxes waiting for my next essay.

Now, 365 days later, that number is 16,000.

I try to imagine a stadium filled with 16,000 people waiting for me to read my articles aloud to them, and honestly, it rattles my nerves.

So before anything else, I just want to say thank you to every single one of you who has chosen to subscribe to my work.

Over the last few weeks, things have gone exponential. The list grew by more than 5,000 in under a month. With that spike came an absolute flood of DMs asking the same question…. How did you grow so fast?

I tried my best to reply to everyone individually, but the sheer volume made me realize that there genuinely are so many people wondering the same, and so I decided to write down how I did it, what I think worked, what I think didnt and everything in between.
