Of all the parts of continuous discovery, people need help most with defining Product Outcomes. Landing on a good Product Outcome is crucial as it drives most of the activities of product thinking, from finding opportunities to discovering solutions and conducting customer interviews.
People love winning – winning starts with having a team and individuals equipped with a winning attitude. As wins accumulate, the team will feel more confident and build momentum. As a leader, it’s crucial to cultivate that mindset deliberately.

I’ve dismissed new year’s resolutions for years. I couldn’t believe people change at the turn of a year. In my mind, improvement was a slow process of relentless practice, nowhere did an abrupt turn register. Worse, I saw new year’s resolutions as a form of self-deception, a feel-good pat on the back, forgotten by the second week of January.
The failure to understand the business and product thinking behind product decisions leads to a significant waste of energy in startups. The misunderstanding threatens empowered teams, leading to poorly designed products and a disengaged workforce. Over time, this situation creates a rift between Product and Engineering. Both parties focus on “their side” and fail to co-create product value.
I sent my team this message. I told myself, why not share it publicly.
Hollywood has pushed a false image of leaders – extravagant, aggressive, arrogant, smarter than everybody else. Influential leaders in real life are comically far from this type of persona. Chances are, if you fit that description, you’ll end up as a failure, dragging down the organization you’re leading.
Like everybody else, my weight fluctuates. Once I cross the 185lb, I try to lose weight. It works great most of the time. But, one year, this strategy didn't succeed; my weight continued to increase, hovering above 195lb. It wasn't a coincidence that the weight increase happened in the first two years of Truework.
