JW Mason · Money and Things

As readers of this newsletter may be aware, my book with Arjun Jayadev, Against Money, will be officially published next week. I’ve heard it’s already showing up in bookstores, though I haven’t yet seen it myself.

I’m writing this post now to call attention to two events around the launch of the book. First, next Tuesday, we are having a roundtable at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the mothership of radical economics in the United States, where both of us went to grad school. It’s in the Gordon Hall Conference Room at 4pm, and will also feature Christine Desan, Jerry Epstein, Perry Mehrling and Bob Pollin. These are four of the people who have done the most to shape my understanding of money and finance, so I’m thrilled to be have this chance to discuss the book with them.

Then on Friday, the official launch event will be held at John Jay College of the City University of New York, where I teach. In addition to me and Arjun, it will feature Zach Carter, author of the excellent Keynes biography The Price of Peace, and a couple of other interesting speakers. It’s from 6pm to 8pm in John Jay New Building room 9.64, at 524 W. 59th St.

Only a few of the readers of this newsletter can be found in Western Massachusetts, I know; somewhat more can be found in New York, but most, I assume, are in neither place. But if you will be located in one or both next week, you should consider coming to one or both events — both are free and open to the public. I hope to see some of you there.
