Hi all! Apologies for the radio silence - I’ve been busy with other projects as of late. I’m excited to write to you now and let you know that I’ll be facilitating three workshops this April. Keep reading to find out more!
🗓 Saturday, April 6th 🕒10:30 AM - 5:30 PM 📍 Biolab Lisboa
In this workshop participants will learn the basic tools and commands of Ink Stitch, an open-source embroidery digitizing software based on Inkscape, and become familiar with the digitizing process and workflow. They will then apply these skills to create their own design and have it embroidered on a Brother Innov-is NV2600 machine. The best part? Attending this workshop will give you free access to the machine on Biolab’s open days.
As a side note, I’ve begun some experiments embroidering on velvet and digitized my friend Ali’s brand logo (LELELÊ Intimates - be sure to check her work). As you can see in the video below, the shine from both the velvet and embroidery thread made for some stunning results.
🗓 Saturday, April 13th 🕒 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM 📍Espaço Arroios
This event is part of “Dar Espaço à Liberdade: 50 anos da Revolução” - Espaço Arroios’ April programming, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April. This will be a drop-in embroidery workshop tailored for families with children over 6. Participants will learn how to use an embroidery machine and customize textiles with embroidery designs commemorating Portugal’s Carnation Revolution.
I’m so excited to be partnering with Biolab Lisboa, who will be supplying their Brother Innov-is NV2600 embroidery machine for the event. I will also bring my Janome Memory Craft 500E so that multiple participants can be embroidering at the same time.
All necessary tools and materials will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own fabric or clothing to embroider. Price per embroidery will range from €8.00 to €15.00.
For inquiries, please reach out by email.
🗓 Saturday, April 27th 🕒 2:00 PM - 7:30 PM 📍 XYZ Books
I’m thrilled to be hosting this workshop for the first time at XYZ Books / XYZ Prints, a Lisbon based independent publishing house and fineart printing studio and photographic lab. They’ve recently announced a Residency Call with Intergalactica for international artists working with the medium of photography. There is no application fee and the project fund is €1.500! You should definitely consider applying if you have been dreaming of publishing your photographic work.
Lenticular technology is known as the process or combination of two or more images viewed by a specialized lens material to create the illusion of animation or three-dimension. It is a technical and tricky field that can require a steep learning curve for beginners. In this workshop you will receive a crash course in lenticular technology and create your very own A5 lenticular print using GIMP or Adobe Photoshop.
