Nothing is Free

The Democratic Socialist Party has made headlines in recent months for their platform and their progression within the Democrat party. One of the DSA platforms or “campaign promises” is that the voters will receive many things for free. Free busses, free healthcare, free college tuition, free housing, etc.

For the entirety of human society, any adult knows that nothing is for free. Everything is paid for. By the company, by the customer, by your parents, by your friends, by you. It’s only as a child that one believes things just drop out of the sky and are given to you. Your home, your clothes, your food, your toys, the school you attend, the car that takes you to soccer practice, vacations, Christmas presents, and so on. As an adult, you understand all that was paid for by your parents. (Except the Christmas presents; that was Santa.)

Social Security is not free; you paid in money during may years of work.

Government subsidies/grants/welfare are not free; they are paid for with our taxes.

Police departments, fire departments, public schools, libraries, etc are not free; they too are paid for with our taxes.

They are not free. Someone is paying for them.
