A lot of time can pass with you feeling you’re in the dark, waiting for some moment you don’t even know about yet.
The story of Esther takes place in fifth century BC. Esther is Jewish, raised by her cousin Mordecai after her parents’ deaths. They live under King Ahasuerus.
The king calls for his queen to join him at a banquet and she refuses. Pissed off, the king banishes her. A little while later, the king’s staff rounds up a bunch of virgins from the kingdom for the king to choose from to replace the queen. Esther’s one of them.
Eventually, the king picks Esther to be queen. Shortly after, Mordecai pisses off one of the king’s guys, Haman. Haman gets approval to kill all the Jews as revenge, and then Esther successfully pleads with the king to stop it.
There are a lot of teachings about this book, mainly focused on the line said to Esther, “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”(4:14)
I want to rather talk about time.
You may be waiting for something in your life. You may not even know what it is. You may be in a situation you didn’t even campaign for, that seems to be going on and on, and not know where any of it is leading.
There are a lot of examples of waiting in the Bible, but let’s just look at this one in Esther.
