Its been over a year and a half since we sold our house, bought a camper and have been travelling the USA full time.
As a landscape artist its the dream.
As a husband and father of two kids, its a bit of a mess.
And as a human it has brought me back to life.
You should follow along the journey, even if only for the pretty pictures.
Our first big trip was a tour of the Rockies. From Glacier to the grand canyon, hopping from national park to national park. And to be honest, it was really hard.
To make this whole lifestyle work we had to pair down to a single car and no studio. So I’m trying to juggle schedules and forced to make my paintings in a single sitting. Theres a thrill to that… one shot, one chance. But we moved FAST and so when things didn’t work out, they crashed hard.
But Slowly we found rhythms that worked. Our travel slowed down a lot and my painting sped up a lot. Then I met David Orrin Smith and his massive watercolours inspired me to 3-4x the size I was working at… and surprisingly my paintings didn’t slow down 3-4x.
This year we are heading out from South Carolina to make our way to the west coast! There are so many amazing places and people to paint on our trip I cant wait: Ill be sharing it all here.
If you want to follow along go ahead and subscribe. If you are feeling generous and want to become a collector and patron of the arts you can buy any of these paintings over on my site HERE.
Let me know if there are any places on the west coast to make sure I don’t miss out on.
Justin out.
