If you’re reading this, you probably play chess.

There’s probably a game you recently played that made you feel like an existential toddler. You remember roughly where it started going wrong. You thought about looking at it properly on the weekend, and then the weekend happened.

Why look over a painful game when you can have fun playing blitz or do your daily MoveTrainer review of your new opening?

That’s the part of improvement that costs a lot. You can play, solve, watch and read for a whole year, and still feel like you’re standing in the same spot. The same mistake turns up in a different opening and it feels new.

The 10-Habit Chess Improvement System is built for players who study hard and still feel like they’re guessing. Ten habits that connect to each other, across 25 video lessons.

You play a serious game, pull one clear lesson out of it, train that one thing, then carry it into your next game and start again. By the end of one loop, you have a confident answer to “what am I working on right now?” and a reason behind it.

Over 75 players have joined this week, which is more than I expected for a first launch, and a sign that the guessing problem is a common one for improvers.

Here’s what a student of the course (peak FIDE 1813) said:

Every lesson is clear, concise and straight to the point. If you are a serious chess improver, The 10-Habit Chess Improvement System will help you find ways to fix your weaknesses, optimise your training and ultimately coach yourself to real improvement. Highly recommended.

If it isn’t for you right now, there’s nothing you need to do. Go and open that game anyway. That’s where you’ll find your pieces wanting to tell you something.

What is habit not capable of?

Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Demons

P.S. I was archiving some old tabs from the Google Doc where I was working on everything to do with this course today, and I found that I’d started brainstorming for it in late January - so it was around 6 months from starting to work on it until this launch week! Although no Odyssey, there’s nothing quite like working on a video course as a creator. Funnily enough, once the launch happened with no major issues, my health noticeably improved. It must have been weighing on me for a while. See you next week!
