True Fashion Lovers: Turning Ordinary Days Extraordinary — 真夏 (Manatsu)’s Quiet Rebellion in Comfort and Grace

After Ancoro Happy’s fairy-tale wonder in Tokyo, today we meet someone who has made Tokyo her own home in a very different way — moving there from China at eighteen and building, over nine years, a style rooted in old-school Lolita sensibility, manga heroines, and the quiet conviction that ordinary days deserve a little extraordinary.

Meet today’s protagonist: 真夏, Manatsu (@mncsum).

Manatsu is a Tokyo-based creator and Musashino Art University graduate who lives, in her own words, “wearing the clothes she loves.” Her style threads together the simplicity and practicality of old-school Lolita fashion, the beautiful girls of Ai Yazawa’s manga, and an instinct for slipping unusual, non-everyday pieces into daily life — turning routine into something worth noticing.

I’m from China, and I moved to Japan when I was 18 years old. This is now my ninth year living in Japan.

When I was in middle school, I became interested in Japanese anime and dramas. I admired the beautiful characters in them, and that’s how I started becoming interested in fashion.

Recently, I’ve been loving the pink and white suede version of the Puma Speedcat Ballet shoes. They go well with almost everything and are also very comfortable to walk in.

In the past, BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT influenced me a lot. I really love old-school Lolita fashion — simple, cute, lightweight, and often surprisingly practical. As for people, I really love Ai Yazawa’s manga. I absolutely adore the way she draws beautiful girls with Lolita-inspired fashion styles.

I keep revisiting Ai Yazawa’s works over and over again, or looking through scanned copies of old fashion magazines.

Fashion is probably the only hobby I’ve consistently stayed passionate about.

I think I have the courage and ability to bring extraordinary pieces into ordinary daily life.

I like bringing unusual or non-everyday pieces into everyday life, making ordinary days feel more interesting through fashion.

Comfortable, well-shaped, and suitable for myself.

There is a quiet rebellion in Manatsu’s world—one that soft-spoken, yet impossible to ignore. Nothing about it shouts, yet within its comfort and graceful silhouettes lies a firm conviction: the resolve to simply exist as her most authentic self.

To convey sincerity in fashion, one doesn’t need grand spectacles or flashy theatrics. Like a scene from an old manga page, the quiet courage to bring the beauty you love into everyday life—turning an ordinary day into something extraordinary—is the most compelling style philosophy Manatsu offers. I am genuinely happy to have met her, and I will be cheering her on with all my heart as her journey unfolds. 🎀
