I always think it’s funny that I first met Jayci in Kansas City. We’re both based in the LA area, though on opposite sides. We really couldn’t be further apart, so maybe it’s not improbable that we meet in a totally different state. But we’ve seen each other many times since (see below) and it’s always such a pleasure to see her. When we arrived at the Monterey Park library at the same time for our panel event, she very kindly stepped out of her car to move the cones in our reserved (tight) parking spots which required three-point turns to get into. We laughed at our own parking struggles.

We also caught up on her writing. I honestly can’t keep count. She has so many books to her name, including Light Burned, the final book in her romantasy series. It’s finally out today!

JL: I came up with Light Shattered, and my editor suggested Light Burned, which worked better because the title actually fit on the cover. Haha

JT: The best kind of vibes

JL: Death. j/k. But I did have to write like my life depended on it. I ended King Foretold on a huge cliff hanger, and I wanted to get Light Burned to my poor readers as soon as possible. So I wrote at least 1500 words five days a week until it was done. Tadah!

JT: This is insanity. I could never write that fast.

JL: That’s hard... I’ll have to do my favorite line, which is in my favorite scene. “I am death.”

JT: Sensing death is a recurring theme.

JL: I like to write to...silence.

JT: Death and silence (jots notes). Got it.

JL: This book tied the entire series (all the questions raised in Nine Tailed and King Foretold) together. It shocked me how everything made complete sense at the end. Haha

JT: Don’t you love it when that happens?

JL: Lack of adequate support of BIPOC authors?

JT: Ah yes. We had plenty to say about this at our last panel!

JL: Friends to lovers, baby!
