Now and again I write a poem that’s NOT about nature, loneliness or love. This is one such poem. Probably best to listen to me reading this one so you get the flow of it.
I wrote it yesterday in the aftermath of the shenanigans surrounding Ann Widdecombe. Yes, I believe she was murdered. Do I think we will get the full story? The truth?
Not a chance.
I was thinking about the way authorities seek to control a narrative.
Part of me thinks that they do want us to speculate - just not on the things we should be speculating on.
I’ve used this image because I feel it represents the situation - being walked down one road. The road of division.
So, stay beautifully human and please, remember to speculate.
In these times, it’s not just recommended, but sadly, very necessary.
“Don’t speculate”
They said
Again
Just let us do our job and then…..
Take off your well worn tin foil hats
We’ll give you only concrete facts…..
We are correct
We will protect
But please……..don’t come too close, inspect…
And do feel free to keep electing
While you’re at it, keep injecting.
.
Prevent is just a project name
Attack, defend
It’s all the same
We don’t feel safer, reassured
By sound bite headlines
Toy town laws
We feel instead, ignored, exposed
No trust is left to foster closure
No sacred space to smooth and heal
To freely think and speak and feel
.
So…..
Excuse me while I speculate
On why I’m not to speculate
Perhaps I am deemed second rate
Or too irate to contemplate
The nuances of what is hate
Just what I might accumulate?
If I should dare to speculate…….
.
What might I access?
In that process?
Why should I profess to care less?
Knowledge? Courage?
Horse has bolted
Memories jogged
Consciousness jolted
I’ll have my voice heard
At this table
Speculate while I’m still able
