Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon, attempting to defeat an enemy that cannot be found – Hezbollah!
Hezbollah of course has three enemies – the US, Israel, and the US’s proxy government in Beirut— fighting an asymmetric war, with its resources well hidden.
The Lebanese army is not fighting much, perhaps because large parts of it are sympathetic with Hezbollah, as are most of the Lebanese population.
The Israelis are fighting with tanks and aircraft and artillery and soldiers on the ground – basically a conventional war, shock and awe, with heavy bombing and use of illegal weapons like phosphorus: wiping out anything that moves – which means mass slaughter of Lebanese civilians.
This unnecessary savagery and brutality of course inflames anti-Israel sentiment in Lebanon and undermines the Quisling government in Beirut.
At least there is no Civil War. Hezbollah does not need to go to war against the American backed Lebanese government-because it is lost support of more than half of the Army and two thirds of the civilian population.
Now, Iran is signaling that it will enter the fight to support Hezbollah.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says he halted negotiations following the latest Israeli attack on Beirut’s Dahiyeh and said Iran will hit the regime immediately.
One guesses that with new, more aggressive leaders in the IRGC, Iran is itching to attack Zionist assets
The Iranians have also said they will continue fighting as long as it takes – even to 2028 and the end of Trump’s term.
Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, a senior adviser to the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), gave an interview to PBS NewsHour in which he explained Iran's strategic framework
Deterrence:
Naqdi stated that Iran wants to build enough deterrence so that any future adversary will know that any attack on Iran will carry a severe price.
Sustainable war:
Iran is producing more missiles each day than it is launching, and the country has the industrial capacity to do this for years.
Outlasting its enemies
By shifting the timeline to the end of Trump’s current term (January 20, 2029), Tehran demonstrates its ability to carry out a long war of attrition which will exhaust any adversary.
That is undoubtedly true.
One wonders, however, whether Trump can complete his term. He is increasingly delusional. Perhaps if the Presidential Nutcase suffers a sudden stroke will solve the worlds problems.
If he continues on his present path, he will destroy the Republican Party and resurrect the Democrats who, however, have to convince the public that they have something different to offer, despite not having any real desire to change anything at all.
At this moment, AOC has surpassed Gov. Newson – just barely in the polls.
Forget Kamala Harris.
AOC has a lot of things that Harris lacks – youth, energy and political flexibility, and sex appeal – something whose value should never be underestimated in politics. Remember the brain-dead Justin Trudeau?
Most important if Harris lost against a guy like Trump, what chance would she have against anyone with an IQ above room temperature?
Also, Mamdami has demonstrated the power of American “socialists”, who in any other country would be called “liberals”. Or center left. But are really really good at pretending to be different from the mainstream.
I should mention that I do not particularly care for AOC, whom I regard as a hypocrite and opportunist.
No matter…nobody knows what will happen in 2028, much less this November.
Just that Trump is getting worse and worse. And its getting attention!
Mary Trump has her critics, of course. But time seems to lend credibility to her analyses. Psychiatrists, of course say one should not diagnose anyone outside of the clinical setting. They make big bucks from that of course — different psychiatrists rarely agree on anything, "clinical diagnoses" or not.
In any case, one thing is sure: Trump will not leave gracefully. And if JD Vance is the next Republican candidate, he will have trouble repudiating Trump's legacy.
The problem is shame. US shame.
Iran is the US’s biggest defeat in modern history, It’s an illegal war of course – a crime. But it is also a disaster disaster, not just militarily, but politically and economically.
Trump has managed to accelerate the decline of the US dollar as a reserve currency and the possibility of a major meltdown of the US economy: while at the same time managing managed to engineer the ever more rapid rise of China and Russia’s polycentric global economic model.
That shining city on the hill that Ronald Reagan used to talk about turned out to be a casino.
The US is going down, down, down – along with Trump. It will take Israel with it, of course.
The end of World War I reshaped the political map of Europe and West Asia also. . The end of the US war on the world will reshape that map once again. Not immediately of course. It will take time.
If Europe, Japan, and the Anglosphere – the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand – cannot disengage from America’s vision of the world and the natural superiority of neocolonial countries, they will sink with the US as well.
Come to think of it, they are already sinking.
