For this section, I’m going to make life easier and use equal solar houses. If you’re a Leo Sun, Leo becomes your 1st house; Virgo your 2nd; Libra your 3rd, and so on around the wheel. Virgo Suns start with Virgo as the 1st, Libra as the 2nd, etc. If you know your actual natal houses and prefer to use them, absolutely do that. This is simply a clean way to give everyone a useful, general read without requiring twelve separate birth charts and a small administrative staff.

And I don’t want to look only at where the New Moon falls. We’ve spent this entire essay watching it interact with Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Black Moon Lilith and Eris, so those planets come with us. The New Moon house shows where something begins to stir; the other houses show what feeds it, irritates it, challenges it, or gives it somewhere to go.

Leo · Virgo · Libra · Scorpio · Sagittarius · Capricorn
Aquarius · Pisces · Aries · Taurus · Gemini · Cancer

For you, the New Moon begins in the 1st house, so the first evidence may be personal in the most literal sense. Something about the way you occupy your own life is beginning to change. You may become more aware of what you want, how you want to present yourself, what you’re willing to tolerate, or how much of your current identity was built around circumstances that no longer exist.

But this isn’t simply a “new you” New Moon. That phrase should probably be taken behind the barn.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 3rd house, so the first rub may show up through language, conversation, writing, learning, siblings, neighbours or the assumptions you repeat so often that they’ve become part of the furniture. You may catch yourself saying something about who you are and suddenly think, Is that even true anymore? An old way of explaining yourself may have become more rigid than the person doing the explaining.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 9th house, which makes this much larger than a haircut and an assertiveness workshop. The 9th concerns the ideas that orient you: education, belief, philosophy, travel, publishing, expertise, the framework through which you make sense of the world. Saturn says you’ve already done some serious work here. Neptune suggests that an old intellectual or philosophical either/or may be opening into something stranger and more interesting. Eris may introduce the irritating person, book, teacher or argument that makes you realize you’ve been resting a little too comfortably on what you already know.

That could be enormously useful. Nothing wakes the mind quite like encountering somebody whose work is excellent enough to be annoying.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 5th house, and here the whole thing gets considerably less respectable. The 5th is where you make, play, desire, perform, create and risk looking foolish because something delights you. Lilith here may be the part of you that has had enough of creating for approval, being tasteful on command, or waiting until you’re sure the result will be admired. Something may want to be made simply because you want your hands on it.

So for Leo Suns, I’d watch the relationship between the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 9th houses. Your identity may be shifting because the story you tell about yourself is changing, your creative appetite is becoming harder to suppress, and your broader understanding of what your life could include is being poked with a fairly sharp stick.

At the New Moon, you may only feel restless or vaguely interested in something. The first-quarter square should be more revealing. Watch where resistance appears. A conversation gets under your skin. Something you read annoys you. A creative urge begins interfering with your sensible plans. You hear yourself repeating an old description of who you are and suddenly want to throw it out the window.

That resistance may tell you where the movement actually started.

And if another person produces something brilliant and your first response is an unbecoming little flash of Oh, fuck off, don’t waste it. There may be useful information in there.

For Virgo Suns, the New Moon falls in the 12th house, which means the first movement may be almost entirely out of sight. You may not know what is beginning because it hasn’t reached the part of your life that requires a name, a plan or an entry in the diary. Something may be developing privately: an old interest returning, work you’re doing where nobody sees it, a desire for more solitude, a dream you’d stopped taking seriously, or simply the sense that a chapter has run its course before you know what comes after it.

This is one of the placements where I’d take the darkness of the New Moon quite literally. Don’t be surprised if everybody else seems to be having a New Moon while you’re staring at the ceiling thinking, I have absolutely no idea what you people are talking about.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 2nd house, so the first friction may concern money, possessions, resources and what you consider worth spending yourself on. Venus describes the ideal that has already crystallized. Perhaps you’ve developed very firm ideas about what constitutes security, what you can afford, what deserves your time, or what counts as a sensible use of your abilities. The 12th-house impulse may initially look impractical beside that beautifully organized 2nd-house arrangement.

And yet that may be precisely the rub. Something private may be becoming valuable to you before it is profitable, useful or even explainable. You may find yourself wanting to give time to something that produces no immediate return, which can make the Virgo nervous enough to start preparing a spreadsheet in self-defence.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 8th house, and that gives this New Moon much deeper roots. The 8th contains what we share, owe, inherit and become entangled with: other people’s money, obligations, dependency, intimacy, grief, trust and the complicated arrangements that bind one life to another. Saturn suggests you’ve already acquired some hard-earned competence here. You may know quite a lot about surviving difficult entanglements, handling responsibility or staying present when circumstances become complicated.

Neptune may reveal that one of those arrangements has been framed too narrowly. Perhaps you’ve been thinking in terms of mine or theirs, stay or sever, owe or refuse, when a third possibility exists. A debt can be renegotiated. An old emotional bond can change form. Something inherited may be used differently. The blanket may, once again, discover maritime ambitions.

Eris in the 8th can be wonderfully aggravating. Another person may expose what you’ve been underusing, overgiving or carrying because nobody else picked it up. Someone else’s courage around money, intimacy or personal power may make you realize how timidly you’ve been handling your own. The irritation may be instructive.

Then Black Moon Lilith is in Sagittarius in your 4th house, and that brings us straight into home, family, ancestry and the private foundations of your life. This is where the sculptor may start hacking away at shapes you inherited rather than chose. Family expectations, domestic roles, loyalties that were installed before you had a vote—Lilith may become considerably less interested in preserving them simply because they’ve been around since Moses had sandals.

For Virgo Suns, then, I’d watch the conversation between the 12th, 2nd, 4th and 8th houses. Something hidden or private is beginning to stir, but it is tied to questions of value and resources, family shaping, and what you owe or share with other people.

And this is one placement where the first-quarter square could be wonderfully revealing because, by then, the Moon will have moved into Scorpio, your 3rd house. The invisible thing may finally acquire words. A conversation, message, piece of information, sibling matter, paperwork problem or irritatingly specific question may force you to articulate what has been brewing behind the curtain.

You may spend the New Moon thinking nothing is happening.

Then somebody asks the wrong question, and apparently you have a great deal to say.

For Libra Suns, the New Moon falls in the 11th house, so the returning life may first appear through the future: what you still want to make, join, contribute to, or become part of. The 11th is also friends, colleagues, networks, audiences and the people with whom your life intersects because you share an interest rather than a bloodline or a mortgage. You may suddenly feel more alive around certain people and oddly absent around others. A future you’d stopped imagining may begin looking possible again because you encounter the right conversation, group, invitation or example.

This doesn’t necessarily mean you need new friends. It may mean your existing social world was assembled around a version of you that is no longer quite current. You can love people and still discover that the room in which you’ve all been meeting has become too small.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 1st house, and this makes the semisquare especially personal. Venus is your ruler, sitting in your own sign, describing the idealized form you’ve built around yourself: your preferences, your manner, the way you relate, the person you believe yourself to be. And Libra can become extraordinarily accomplished at creating a coherent version of the self. You know what you like. You know how you behave. You know what you would and absolutely would not do.

Then the 11th-house New Moon wanders in with people, possibilities and plans that don’t quite suit the established portrait.

You may find yourself attracted to a crowd you wouldn’t ordinarily join, wanting to make something publicly that doesn’t fit your usual aesthetic, or saying yes to an idea that causes the tasteful internal committee to request an emergency meeting. The friction isn’t necessarily between you and other people. It may be between who you’ve decided you are and the future that suddenly interests you.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 7th house, so other people are heavily implicated in this. Somebody across the table may be carrying part of the answer.

Saturn says there is history here. You’ve already learned a great deal through partnership, opposition, negotiation and the unglamorous business of dealing with actual people instead of hypothetical ones. A relationship may have taught you how to stay, how to work through difficulty, how to recognize your own limits, or how to stop making every disagreement into evidence that civilization has failed.

Neptune in the 7th is more peculiar. You may have been seeing a relationship or relational problem as an either/or: I accommodate or I leave. I collaborate or I do it alone. I keep this person in my life or I remove them. Neptune’s triangle with wings suggests the interesting answer may be elsewhere. Perhaps the relationship needs a different form. Perhaps the opponent becomes a collaborator. Perhaps the person you thought was blocking you introduces the third point that gets the whole structure off the ground.

And Eris in the 7th? Oh, somebody may annoy you into excellence.

A partner, colleague, rival or adversary may do something so well—or have the outrageous nerve to do what you’ve merely contemplated—that your competitive equipment suddenly comes online. Libra often gets caricatured as forever seeking agreement, but there are few things more invigorating than encountering a worthy opposite. The right person across the table can make you sharper because they refuse to let you phone it in.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 3rd house, where the sculptor gets hold of language. This could be glorious. You may become much less interested in saying the acceptable thing, explaining yourself endlessly, or sanding every thought until nobody could possibly object to it. Writing, speaking, teaching, conversations with siblings or neighbours—any of these may become places where you start hearing your own voice without quite so much upholstery around it.

Lilith in the 3rd can also reveal how much of your thinking was shaped by other people. Phrases inherited from family. Opinions absorbed from your social world. Ways of speaking designed to prevent disagreement before it starts. At some point you hear yourself repeating one and think, Who the hell said I believe that?

So for Libra Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 11th, 1st, 3rd and 7th houses. The future is calling through people, but it may require a revision of the person you thought you were, a less domesticated voice, and relationships willing to become more interesting than the roles originally assigned to them.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 2nd house, and suddenly all those lovely future possibilities encounter the vulgar business of value, money, time and resources.

There it is.

You want to join the thing—what does it cost? You want to make the work—what are you willing to give it? You want the future—what are you still spending yourself on instead? You want to be taken seriously—what do you take seriously enough to invest in?

The New Moon may begin with a person, a community or a glimpse of another future.

The first square may hand you the bill.

For Scorpio Suns, the New Moon falls in the 10th house, so whatever begins stirring has somewhere very public to go. This is vocation, reputation, authority, achievement and the role you occupy in the larger world. It doesn’t necessarily mean a new career. It may be subtler and considerably more troublesome: the work you’ve become known for no longer contains everything you want to do.

You may have spent years becoming extremely good at something and then discover that competence has its own trap. Other people know what to ask of you. You know how to deliver it. Everybody is pleased. Meanwhile, some less domesticated ambition has started tapping on the glass.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 12th house, which makes the source of the friction especially interesting. The crystallized ideal may be largely invisible even to you. There may be an old picture of what a good, successful, respectable or worthwhile person ought to be that has been operating backstage for years. You may have organized your public life around standards you rarely stop to examine because they’ve become indistinguishable from common sense.

That 12th-house Venus can also describe work, beauty, affection or pleasure that has remained private. Something you love but don’t count. Something you do behind the scenes. Something you’ve never quite believed deserves a place in the official biography. The semisquare from the 10th-house New Moon may begin asking why.

This could be deliciously inconvenient. The thing trying to enter your public life may be precisely the thing you’ve been keeping in the back room.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 6th house, so the machinery underneath this New Moon is work. Actual work. Daily practice, skill, routine, service, employment, craft and the thousand repetitive acts through which you become capable of doing something well.

Saturn here makes immediate sense. Whatever is trying to emerge professionally isn’t appearing out of nowhere. The hands have been learning. You may already have years of experience that can be repurposed, revised or taken somewhere you never originally intended. The daily work has built something sturdier than you realized.

Neptune in the 6th asks whether you’ve misunderstood what all that practice was for. Perhaps you thought one skill belonged to one job, one workplace or one definition of usefulness. Then the third point appears. The thing you learned because you had to earn a living may turn out to be exactly what another calling needs. The blanket gets another opportunity to behave suspiciously like a sail.

There can also be a genuine problem here with the division between work that pays and work that means something to you. Those may have become the two points of the argument. Neptune suggests the answer may not be choosing one and sacrificing the other. Something about the existing skill set may allow a third arrangement.

And Eris in the 6th can make comparison wonderfully productive. Somebody does your kind of work better. Somebody younger arrives with nerve. A colleague produces something excellent. A person with half your experience has already started doing the thing you’ve spent three years “thinking about.” You may feel a brief and unbecoming desire to throw them into a hedge.

Use it.

Eris here isn’t asking you to defeat the other person. She’s showing you where your own standards have become too comfortable. The irritation may send you back to the bench.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 2nd house, and now the sculptor gets hold of value. Money, earning, possessions, talents, self-support and what you consider worth your time all become material.

This could show up as a much sharper awareness of where you’re underpaid, undervaluing an ability, earning money in a way that deforms you, or continuing to treat one of your actual gifts as a hobby because it doesn’t fit the economic arrangement you built years ago. Lilith in the 2nd can become ferocious about what belongs to you—not only possessions, but your labour, your ability and your right to decide what they’re worth.

She may also start subtracting. Expenses, obligations or earning arrangements that keep the rest of your life obedient may become harder to tolerate. The rude question here is not merely What am I worth? It’s who has been setting the price?

So for Scorpio Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 10th, 12th, 6th and 2nd houses. Something wants greater public expression. Its roots may be in a private love or ideal you haven’t fully acknowledged, supported by skills you’ve been developing through ordinary work, while your relationship with money and value begins demanding a more accurate reckoning.

And then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio, your 1st house.

That’s where this gets personal.

The New Moon may begin as a career question, a piece of work, a public ambition or dissatisfaction with the role you occupy. At the first square, you become the obstacle—or, more accurately, the existing version of you does.

Can you actually see yourself doing this? Can you tolerate being known differently? Are you willing to stop hiding behind competence in order to become a beginner somewhere else? Does the person you’ve been agree with the direction your life appears to be taking?

The resistance may come through your body, your confidence, your visibility or the peculiar vulnerability of saying, Yes, this is mine and I’m doing it.

The 10th-house New Moon starts by asking what you want to do in the world.

By the first square, Scorpio may discover the more alarming question:

Are you willing to be the person who does it?

For Sagittarius Suns, the New Moon falls in the 9th house, which is rather like giving Sagittarius a New Moon in its favourite cupboard and then wondering why everything has been pulled off the shelves.

The returning life may arrive through learning, teaching, writing, publishing, travel, belief, philosophy or an idea big enough to rearrange the furniture in your head. Something you thought you understood may become interesting again. You may want to study a subject properly, go somewhere, write something, teach what you know, or pursue a question you’d previously filed under fascinating but impractical. The 9th house also contains the frameworks by which we make sense of experience, so you may discover that one of yours has become too small for what you now know.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 11th house, putting the crystallized ideal among friends, colleagues, communities, audiences and your picture of the future. You may have built a very attractive idea of where you belong and who belongs there with you. Perhaps you’ve found your people, developed a readership, joined a professional world, or simply become accustomed to imagining your future in company with a particular crowd.

Then the 9th-house New Moon starts thinking thoughts that may inconvenience the guest list.

A subject fascinates you that your usual circle finds peculiar. Your thinking changes and you become less interested in maintaining agreement. A future you once wanted begins to look oddly second-hand. Or you realize that some of your convictions have been reinforced because everyone around you shares them, which is comfortable right up until you encounter an idea that refuses to behave.

The semisquare to Venus doesn’t require you to abandon your people. It does ask whether belonging has begun shaping your thinking more than your thinking shapes where you belong.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 5th house, and here is where this gets lively. The 5th is creativity, pleasure, play, performance, romance, risk and the things you make because some part of you wants them to exist. For a 9th-house New Moon, that means the new idea may need to become something made, rather than remaining one more magnificent thought wandering around Sagittarius with a passport.

Saturn in the 5th says you’ve already done some work. You may have spent years writing, painting, performing, teaching, designing, making videos, raising children, developing a craft or learning how to sustain a creative practice after the initial excitement wanders off looking for wine. Whatever this New Moon awakens, you may already possess more technique than you’re giving yourself credit for.

Neptune in the 5th asks whether you’ve misidentified the purpose of that creative ability. Something you thought was “just for fun” may turn out to belong inside the larger work. A pastime may become the form through which you teach. A creative skill may carry an idea farther than argument ever could. The scholar discovers comedy. The traveller starts photographing what everyone else walks past. The person with a head full of philosophy discovers that a novel can say what an essay cannot.

Saturn says, “You’ve learned how to do this.”

Neptune peers over its shoulder and says, “Yes, but have you considered doing something completely different with it?”

And Eris in the 5th may supply the necessary irritation. Somebody makes something brilliant. Somebody publishes the book, mounts the exhibition, gives the talk, starts the channel or takes the risk you’ve been discussing since approximately the invention of indoor plumbing. You admire them for three seconds and then experience a much more useful emotion.

Oh, come ON.

Excellent. There’s your Eris.

The 5th house can accumulate an extraordinary amount of unused creative ability because pleasure is easy to demote. There’s always something more necessary to do. Eris may make that increasingly difficult. She wants one of those gifts out of its wrapper and on the workbench.

Black Moon Lilith sits in Sagittarius in your 1st house, which makes this New Moon considerably more personal than a change of opinion. The sculptor has got hold of you.

You may become much less willing to perform a version of Sagittarius that other people find convenient: endlessly upbeat, endlessly adventurous, endlessly tolerant, always ready with perspective and never allowed to say, Actually, I hate this. Lilith in the 1st can expose how much of your manner, appearance or identity has been shaped in response to what other people reward.

She may also make you more willing to stand visibly behind what you believe. A 9th-house idea can remain pleasantly abstract for years. Lilith in the 1st asks what happens when your own body has to accompany it into the room.

There’s an interesting chain here for Sagittarius Suns: the 9th house says your understanding of the world is moving; the 11th asks whether your social world can accommodate it; the 5th insists that you make something from it; and the 1st asks whether you’re prepared to embody it yourself.

That’s a hell of a lot more interesting than “book a trip.”

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 12th house, and this may be where you finally understand why the whole thing began.

The 9th-house New Moon may initially look outward: a course, a journey, a book, an argument, an idea, an ambition to publish or teach. At the first square, something behind the scenes pushes back. You get tired. You need to withdraw. An old fear surfaces. A private grief, unfinished experience or half-buried desire suddenly has opinions about the grand new direction.

And that resistance may reveal that the New Moon was never solely about acquiring more knowledge.

Perhaps you want to study because there’s something you’ve needed to understand for years. Perhaps you want to travel because part of your life has become airless. Perhaps you want to write because something private has finally accumulated enough pressure to require language. Perhaps the new belief is emerging because the old one could no longer contain an experience you’ve never completely metabolized.

The first square in the 12th may be less spectacular than Sagittarius would prefer. No trumpets. No boarding pass. You may simply find yourself awake at an inconvenient hour realizing why you care so much about the thing you thought had merely caught your interest.

The New Moon opens the horizon.

The first square may tell you what, deep down, made you start looking for one.

For Capricorn Suns, the New Moon falls in the 8th house, so the returning life is likely to arrive through something you cannot manage entirely by yourself. Shared money, debts, inheritances, taxes, investments, intimacy, dependency, trust, obligations, endings, other people’s resources—the 8th is full of arrangements where another person’s choices have consequences for you.

That can be particularly irritating for Capricorn, who generally prefers a problem that can be put on a desk and dealt with.

This New Moon may stir something inside one of those entanglements. You may want to change a financial agreement, use shared resources differently, become less dependent on someone, allow yourself to depend on someone more, or finally deal with an arrangement that has been functioning chiefly because nobody has wanted to open the cupboard. The returning appetite of Leo may be surprisingly blunt here: I want more control over this. I want more freedom inside this. I want this thing we share to support life rather than merely perpetuate itself.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 10th house, so the crystallized ideal sits in the realm of career, reputation, achievement and the role you occupy publicly. You may have built a very clear picture of what success ought to look like, what responsible adulthood requires, or what kind of person you intend the world to see when it looks in your direction.

And that public arrangement may be tied more closely to the 8th-house situation than you realized.

Perhaps your career depends upon a spouse’s support. Perhaps your income has become entangled with somebody else’s expectations. Perhaps maintaining a certain professional life requires a financial structure that no longer suits you. Or perhaps the opposite: you have become so identified with being competent, independent and able to carry your own weight that receiving help now feels suspiciously like moral decline.

Venus in the 10th likes a handsome edifice. The semisquare asks what that edifice costs to maintain.

Then Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 4th house, and suddenly we’re underneath the building.

The 4th is home, family, ancestry, property and the psychological foundations you inherited long before you began constructing your impressive adult self. Saturn here suggests that some of your competence with 8th-house matters was learned early. Perhaps responsibility arrived young. Perhaps you learned how to manage scarcity, family complications, unstable adults, property, caregiving or simply the knowledge that somebody had to keep the wheels on and apparently that somebody was you.

That old Saturn skill is useful now. You know how to deal with difficult material.

But Neptune in the 4th asks a different question: what if the family story itself has been framed incorrectly? You may have inherited an either/or that no longer applies. Loyalty or freedom. Family or independence. Keep the property or abandon it. Carry the obligation or become the terrible person who refuses. Neptune’s third point may reveal another arrangement entirely.

The house can be sold without the family being erased. Support can be given without surrendering your life. An inheritance can become raw material rather than a commandment. A family role can change without requiring you to sever every relationship connected to it.

Saturn says, “This is how we’ve always held the structure together.”

Neptune looks at the plans and says, “Are we absolutely certain that’s a load-bearing wall?”

Eris in the 4th may make this less philosophical. Someone in the family may do something differently and irritate the hell out of you because it demonstrates that another option was available. A sibling refuses an obligation you assumed was mandatory. Somebody sells, moves, changes the arrangement or stops performing the family role you thought was permanent. Your first response may be, Well, that’s bloody irresponsible.

Your second may be considerably more interesting.

Eris can show you where another person’s refusal exposes your own unexamined compliance.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 12th house, and this is where the 8th-house New Moon acquires a secret accomplice. The 12th contains what has been hidden, denied, deferred, done privately or left without a respectable place in the daylight version of your life. Lilith here may bring up feelings you’ve considered inadmissible: resentment about what you’ve carried, relief at the thought of an ending, anger at someone you’re also supposed to love, desire for resources you’ve trained yourself not to ask for.

She may also reveal the private cost of being the dependable one.

There are things a person can carry so competently that nobody realizes they’ve become unbearable—including the person carrying them. Lilith in the 12th may begin removing the moral varnish from some of those burdens. Wanting out of an arrangement doesn’t automatically make the arrangement wicked. It may simply mean you’ve reached the point where your participation is no longer freely given.

So for Capricorn Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 8th, 10th, 4th and 12th houses. Shared resources and obligations are beginning to move; the public life or definition of success may be part of what keeps them in place; family history supplied some of the original structure; and a much less polite private self has begun questioning how much of it you still intend to carry.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 11th house, where friends, allies, communities and the future enter the discussion.

That could be the first clear indication of what the New Moon was really about. Somebody offers help. A friend tells you how they handled something similar. A group, audience or professional network opens an option you hadn’t considered. Or you suddenly see that an 8th-house arrangement is interfering with something you want for your future.

That last one could be the clincher.

You may have tolerated a financial, family or intimate entanglement for years because you could carry it. At the first square, you may realize that being able to carry something and wanting to keep carrying it are entirely different questions.

Capricorn is very good at asking, What must be done?

This New Moon may eventually produce the far more dangerous question:

What would I build if all this capacity were no longer occupied keeping the old arrangement alive?

For Aquarius Suns, the New Moon falls in the 7th house, so the returning life may come through another person. A partner, client, collaborator, rival, friend, lover, opponent or simply somebody standing across from you may become the place where movement begins.

This doesn’t automatically mean “new relationship.” The 7th is any significant one-to-one encounter where another person becomes a mirror, a challenge or a source of consequence. You may find that somebody wants more from you, less from you, something different from you, or simply refuses to continue participating in the old arrangement. That can be inconveniently clarifying.

The 7th-house New Moon can also show you what you’ve been outsourcing to other people. Perhaps someone else has been carrying the spark, the confidence, the ambition, the emotional labour, the appetite for change. Then suddenly you realize that the quality you keep noticing across the table belongs partly to you.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 9th house, so the crystallized ideal sits in your beliefs, worldview, education, philosophy, publishing, travel or the framework you use to explain what life means. You may have developed a very elegant understanding of how relationships ought to work, what fairness looks like, what mature partnership requires, or how reasonable adults are supposed to behave.

Lovely.

Then an actual person turns up.

The semisquare suggests friction between the lived relationship and the theory. You may discover that your beautiful principles don’t quite account for desire, incompatibility, timing, stubbornness, jealousy, difference or the deeply irritating fact that the other person has their own horoscope.

A 7th-house New Moon can therefore disturb a settled philosophy. Someone may make you rethink what partnership means. A collaborator may introduce an idea you had dismissed. An opponent may expose a hole in your argument. A relationship may force you to admit that one of your cherished theories works much better in print than in a kitchen.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris all fall in Aries in your 3rd house, so this New Moon is deeply tied to communication, writing, thinking, siblings, neighbours, learning and the daily traffic of information.

Saturn here says you’ve already done work on your voice. Perhaps you’ve learned how to explain yourself more clearly, write with discipline, listen better, argue less stupidly, or simply survive enough conversations to know when one is going nowhere. There is skill available.

Neptune in the 3rd says the problem may be that the conversation has been framed too narrowly. You and another person may be stuck in a two-point argument: my position or yours, yes or no, stay or go, right or wrong. Then the third point appears.

Maybe the real issue is not what either of you has been arguing about. Maybe there’s another piece of information. Maybe both positions are built on an assumption nobody questioned. Maybe a new way of speaking changes the entire shape of the problem.

This is especially potent for Aquarius because you can sometimes become very attached to the architecture of an idea. Neptune strolls in and says, “What if the architecture is fine but we’ve built it on the wrong lot?”

Eris in the 3rd can make another person’s voice profoundly useful by being profoundly irritating. Somebody writes better than you. Somebody says the thing you were circling. Somebody makes an argument you dislike and, worse, makes it well. A sibling, neighbour, colleague or online stranger may press exactly the intellectual bruise required to get you thinking again.

You don’t have to like them.

You may still have to thank them internally while muttering something unprintable.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 11th house, which brings friends, groups, audiences, networks and future plans into the picture. Lilith here may make you much less willing to belong at the price of self-editing. You may start noticing where a group expects a particular version of you, where friendship has become role-playing, or where consensus has become a substitute for actual thought.

She may also push you toward people who are less polished and more alive.

That could affect the 7th-house story directly. Perhaps one relationship has been shaped by the expectations of the wider group. Perhaps you’ve stayed loyal to a social role because everybody knows you that way. Perhaps the person across from you is asking for a kind of honesty that your usual community doesn’t quite reward.

So for Aquarius Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 7th, 9th, 3rd and 11th houses. Another person may trigger the New Moon; your worldview may resist; communication becomes the workshop; and your wider social world may be where you discover how much of the old arrangement was being reinforced.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 10th house.

That’s where the private or relational movement becomes visible.

A conversation with one person may suddenly have professional consequences. A partnership decision affects your reputation. A client relationship changes the direction of your work. An opponent forces you to take a public position. Or you simply realize that what has changed between you and another person is going to require a different way of standing in the world.

The 7th-house New Moon may begin with, Something is changing between us.

The first square may reveal, Oh. This changes what I’m going to do.

And that’s where Aquarius may get its clearest clue about the source of movement: the person across from you wasn’t necessarily the problem.

They may have been the ignition.

For Pisces Suns, the New Moon falls in the 6th house, so the returning life enters through the daily machinery: work, routine, health, obligations, skill, service and the hundreds of small things you do repeatedly until they become the shape of an ordinary day.

That may sound less glamorous than the 9th or the 10th, but I wouldn’t underestimate it. If something genuinely new wants into your life, eventually it has to get past Tuesday’s laundry, the inbox, the body, the job and whatever needs doing before lunch. The 6th house is where desire discovers whether there is actually room for it.

You may find yourself wanting to work differently, use your time differently, get better at something, stop doing a task that has become deadening, or take much more seriously an activity that has previously been squeezed into whatever scraps of time remained. Sometimes the first sign is simply that a routine you’ve tolerated for years becomes astonishingly irritating. Nothing has changed on paper. You have.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 8th house, so the crystallized ideal involves sharing: money, dependency, intimacy, obligations, debts, support and the arrangements through which your life becomes tangled with other lives. There may be a very established idea of what fairness looks like here—who contributes what, who owes whom, what you should be able to handle alone, what you’re entitled to ask for, and what would constitute an unacceptable burden on somebody else.

The 6th-house New Moon may begin rubbing against that arrangement because changing your daily life affects other people.

Perhaps you want to work fewer hours, but the household finances say hello. Perhaps you want to devote serious time to something that currently earns nothing. Perhaps you’ve been providing labour that everybody has somehow agreed is simply part of your personality. Perhaps another person’s needs have been organizing your timetable for so long that you’ve forgotten there was ever another way to arrange the day.

The Venus semisquare may make you aware that a beautifully balanced agreement isn’t necessarily balanced if one person has changed.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 2nd house, so money, resources, possessions, talents and value are sitting underneath this entire 6th-house story.

Saturn here says you already know how to work with limitation. You’ve learned what things cost. You’ve developed abilities through necessity, repetition and perhaps a considerable amount of making do. There may be a skill you barely count as a skill because you acquired it the hard way and now perform it almost automatically. The New Moon may have plans for it.

Neptune in the 2nd could change what you think a resource is.

You may have been looking at the problem as time or money. Do the practical work or do the meaningful work. Keep the secure income or pursue the thing that excites you. Neptune’s third point may come from recognizing an asset you hadn’t included in the calculation: a skill, a piece of property, an unusual arrangement, somebody willing to exchange resources, or a way of earning that doesn’t resemble the two options you’ve been arguing over.

Saturn looks at the bank account.

Neptune says, “Yes, but what else do we own?”

That question can become wonderfully literal in the 2nd house. You may already possess more of the solution than you thought.

Eris here can make comparison particularly sharp. Somebody charges for something you’ve been giving away. Somebody makes a living using an ability you regard as merely one of those things you know how to do. Somebody with less experience asks for more money and, to your immense irritation, receives it.

There’s information in that.

Eris in the 2nd can provoke a more demanding relationship with your own gifts. If another person’s confidence annoys you, it may be because they’ve assigned economic or practical value to something you’ve been treating as incidental. You don’t necessarily need to copy them. You might, however, want to stop pretending your own ability arrived free of charge.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 10th house, and now the sculptor walks straight into the public life.

This could make you considerably less willing to perform competence in a role that no longer fits. Career, authority, reputation, status—the version of you that other people recognize may start feeling like material rather than destiny. You can alter it.

Lilith in the 10th may also make you less obedient to other people’s definition of respectable work. A job can look perfectly good from the outside and still be consuming the parts of you needed elsewhere. A reputation can become a cage precisely because everyone keeps congratulating you for it.

And there’s an especially interesting connection between the 6th and 10th here. The New Moon may begin with something small and daily—I cannot keep doing my days like this—while Lilith is already looking much farther up the chain and thinking, Well, perhaps the problem is what these days are building.

That’s where this gets good.

For Pisces Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 6th, 8th, 2nd and 10th houses. Your daily life wants movement. Shared arrangements may resist it. Your own resources may contain more possibilities than you’ve counted. And your public role may be ready for a bit of unauthorized remodelling.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 9th house, and suddenly the question gets larger.

A problem that began with your schedule may expose a problem with direction. You thought you needed a better routine and discover you need more education. You thought you hated your job, and then you discovered you wanted to teach. You thought you needed a holiday, and then you discovered you needed a horizon. A book, course, journey, legal matter, publishing opportunity or encounter with a completely different way of thinking may show you why the existing daily arrangement has become unbearable.

The first square may therefore reveal that the 6th-house irritation was only the symptom.

You weren’t merely trying to organize your days better.

You were trying to make your days lead somewhere.

For Aries Suns, the New Moon falls in the 5th house, so the returning life comes in through creativity, pleasure, desire, romance, play, performance and the sheer urge to make something because you damn well want to. This is one of the placements where the Leo New Moon has plenty of room to behave like itself.

Something may begin giving you pleasure again. You may want to write, paint, perform, flirt, build, sing, garden, photograph, invent, compete, fall in love or revive a thing you once did simply because doing it made you feel vividly present. The interesting part is that you may have stopped allowing yourself that kind of appetite without ever formally deciding to stop. Useful things took precedence. Other people needed things. Work expanded to occupy available territory. One day you look around and discover that everything you do has a reason.

The 5th-house New Moon may become very interested in unreasonable things.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 7th house, so the crystallized ideal lives in the territory of one-to-one relationship. If you have a partner, this may concern the shape the relationship has acquired and how much room it leaves for your returning 5th-house appetite. But the 7th is much larger than marriage. A close friend, collaborator, client, rival, prospective lover or anyone whose response carries weight can occupy this ground. And sometimes what becomes visible is simply your own picture of what close involvement with another person is supposed to require.

You may have developed firm ideas about fairness, accommodation and how much of yourself should be adjusted once another person enters the equation. Even without a partner, you can organize parts of your life around an anticipated one: I couldn’t do that if I were in a relationship. Nobody would put up with this. I should be more available. I should be less selfish. There can be an invisible second person in the room long before an actual one appears.

The 5th-house New Moon may interfere with that beautifully.

You want something because you want it. You want time to create, play, flirt, perform or become absorbed in an interest that doesn’t require anybody else’s approval or participation. The semisquare to Venus may show you where your instinct to accommodate another person—real, potential or entirely theoretical—has been editing desire before desire even gets a chance to speak.

So the question isn’t merely How will this affect my relationship? It may be: How quickly do you turn a private desire into a negotiation with somebody who may not even be in the room?

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 1st house, which makes this New Moon very closely tied to who you have become.

Saturn in the 1st says you’ve already acquired some backbone. You’ve been shaped by experience, effort, consequence and all the occasions when enthusiasm alone proved insufficient. Aries likes beginnings; Saturn knows what happened after the third Thursday. There may now be far more skill behind your impulses than there was when you first encountered this creative interest, desire or ambition.

That changes things.

You may return to something you tried years ago and discover that the person returning has better hands. You may also find that you’re much less willing to abandon yourself at the first sign that somebody else isn’t impressed.

Neptune in the 1st complicates identity in a more interesting way. You may have reduced yourself to a choice between two versions: responsible or free, serious or creative, committed or independent, respectable adult or person who still wants to do something slightly ridiculous.

Neptune looks at this identity crisis and asks why you’re choosing between two costumes.

The third point may be a version of you that uses both. The discipline acquired through age or experience may be exactly what allows the unruly thing to become real. You don’t need to return to who you were when you first loved it. You get to bring the person you are now.

And Eris in the 1st? She is going to be difficult to ignore.

Another person’s audacity may get under your skin because it reminds you of your own. Somebody performs, publishes, falls in love, takes a creative risk, changes their appearance or simply behaves with an amount of nerve you find faintly offensive.

You may think, Who does she think she is?

A second later: Oh.

Eris in the 1st can make the rival painfully personal. The provocation may also come from an earlier version of you. You find something you made twenty years ago and are annoyed by how fearless it was. You remember the person who attempted things before you acquired an advanced degree in anticipating every possible objection.

Now you know more.

Eris would still like to see whether you can move.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 9th house, and she may start carving away at the beliefs that have kept this 5th-house life contained. The 9th is your philosophy, education, religion, worldview, publishing, travel and all the large explanations under which you organize experience. Lilith here can become very suspicious of received wisdom.

Who told you this was frivolous?

Who decided you were too old, too busy, too inexperienced, too educated, insufficiently educated, badly positioned or otherwise disqualified?

Some of those conclusions may have arrived dressed as wisdom when they were really somebody else’s limits with a nice coat on.

Lilith in the 9th may also make you hungry for experience rather than commentary about experience. You can read about the place; eventually you may want to go. You can study the craft; at some point you may want to make the thing. You can develop an impeccable philosophy of creativity while producing absolutely bugger all.

Lilith has brought the chisel.

So for Aries Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 5th, 7th, 1st and 9th houses. Pleasure and creativity are waking up. Your ideas about relationship and accommodation may have to make room. Your identity is already changing around the returning desire, and some large belief about what you’re allowed to want may be due for an unpleasant inspection.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 8th house, where the lovely 5th-house impulse encounters consequence.

Ah.

The thing you want may require money. Intimacy. Trust. Vulnerability. Shared resources. Somebody else’s cooperation. You may discover that making the work means investing in it, that romance requires emotional exposure, that pursuing pleasure changes an existing financial arrangement, or that the creative risk becomes much more frightening once somebody else can actually see what you’ve made.

The 8th house is where I want this runs into what will this require from me?

That may show you exactly what started moving at the New Moon.

Perhaps the issue was never lack of creativity. Perhaps it was the price of being seen. Perhaps desire itself wasn’t dormant; vulnerability was the gatekeeper. Perhaps you’ve had the idea for years but kept it pleasantly hypothetical because bringing it into form would require resources, commitment or the possibility that somebody could reject it.

The first square may make the cost visible.

Then Aries gets to decide whether the thing waking up is worth paying for.

For Taurus Suns, the New Moon falls in the 4th house, so the returning life begins close to home: family, property, ancestry, privacy, belonging and the foundations underneath everything else you do.

Something in the private life may begin wanting more air. You may suddenly care enormously about where you live, how you live, who gets access to your home, what the household feels like, or what you need when nobody is watching. An old desire concerning a house, land, family, relocation or simply the kind of private life you want may come back after years of being filed under perhaps later.

The 4th can also be much less literal. It contains the arrangements you inherited before you were old enough to inspect them. What constitutes a proper home. What family members owe one another. Who takes care of whom. What you’re supposed to preserve because your people preserved it before you.

A Leo New Moon in there could become rather interested in whether any of this is actually yours.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 6th house, so the crystallized ideal sits in the daily workings of life: employment, routine, usefulness, health, service and all the things that have to happen again tomorrow whether anybody finds them spiritually meaningful or not.

You may have become extraordinarily good at running your life. Work gets done. People are cared for. The appointments happen. The house functions. The dog gets fed. The bins somehow reach the curb. Venus in Libra can make that arrangement beautifully balanced—or at least beautifully appearing balanced.

Then the 4th-house New Moon asks whether the machinery is serving the life underneath it.

Perhaps you want more time at home but your work arrangement assumes otherwise. Perhaps the household itself is consuming ridiculous amounts of labour. Perhaps you’ve designed a routine around everybody else’s needs and only recently noticed that you also reside there. Or perhaps you have such a fixed idea of what a well-run life ought to look like that anything less efficient feels like failure.

The semisquare may begin with some tiny domestic irritation that seems completely beneath astrological notice.

Then you realize you’re furious about the dishwasher because the dishwasher is not the problem.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 12th house, which makes this one of the more subterranean versions of the New Moon.

Saturn in the 12th suggests old work done in private. Endurance nobody particularly saw. Responsibilities carried behind the scenes. Skills developed during periods of isolation, difficulty or simply years when there wasn’t much applause available. Something trying to emerge through the 4th house may have roots considerably older than the current situation.

There may also be unfinished business here. An old family story, abandoned plan, private piece of work or pattern you thought you’d put away may still have thread hanging out of the cupboard. Saturn retrograde in the 12th can make the past unexpectedly useful—not because you need to crawl back into it, but because you may now understand what it taught you.

Neptune in the 12th is fascinating because this is already Neptune’s natural sort of terrain: dreams, memory, retreat, imagination, grief, the half-known material that doesn’t behave well under fluorescent lighting.

The third point may appear there before you can explain it.

Perhaps you’ve been thinking, I stay here or I leave. I keep the family arrangement or I break it. I maintain the home exactly as it is or abandon the whole thing. Neptune may begin dissolving that argument. Maybe the house changes purpose. Maybe the family relationship changes without disappearing. Maybe you move but keep something essential. Maybe privacy and connection aren’t opposites. Maybe the place you thought you needed was really a quality of life you could build somewhere else.

The answer may first arrive as a feeling that seems annoyingly short on documentation.

And Eris in the 12th can produce a particularly peculiar form of provocation: you may be competing with something nobody else can see.

An earlier version of yourself. A private ambition you’ve never admitted properly. Somebody whose life you observe from a distance. A family member who made a choice you secretly envy. You may discover a little underground fury at the fact that another person gave themselves permission to live differently.

Eris may ask why you didn’t.

That question needn’t be cruel. It may be useful enough to loosen something that has been sitting in the dark for years.

Then Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 8th house, and she has absolutely no intention of keeping the family conversation polite.

The 8th contains shared money, dependency, inheritances, debts, intimacy, wills, property arrangements and all the ways another person can have a legitimate hand in something you would very much prefer to regard as entirely your own business.

With a 4th-house New Moon, this can get literal quickly. Who owns what? Who inherits what? Who pays? Who gets to live there? Who has been contributing labour nobody counts because there was never an invoice attached? What family obligation has survived mainly because everybody is afraid of what will happen if one person stops performing it?

Lilith in the 8th can become savage about concealed bargains.

She may also expose the emotional ones. I supported you, therefore you owe me. I sacrificed, therefore you must remain. I kept the family together, therefore nobody is allowed to change the arrangement.

Those agreements can have tremendous power precisely because nobody remembers signing them.

Lilith brings the chisel.

So for Taurus Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 4th, 6th, 12th and 8th houses. Something in the private life wants to move. Daily routines may be keeping the old arrangement intact. Old, half-conscious material is feeding the change from underneath, and shared resources or family entanglements may determine what can actually be altered.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 7th house, and another person becomes part of the story. You may live alone and be perfectly happy about it; the 7th does not require a spouse lurking behind the sofa. It describes the consequential other—the person across from you whose choices, questions, offers or objections require a response.

At the New Moon, you may think the issue is entirely private: your home, family, property, sense of belonging or the way you want to live. At the first square, an encounter may reveal what has actually been moving underneath it. A neighbour wants something. A family member assumes something. A realtor tells you what the house is worth. A friend asks why you’re still living there. A contractor presents a price that causes a small spiritual emergency. Or somebody simply sees your situation from outside and asks the question you’ve been carefully avoiding.

The other person can also be the opening rather than the obstruction. They offer an arrangement you hadn’t considered, introduce you to somebody, draw a boundary that clarifies your own, or show you another way of organizing private life.

So the first square isn’t necessarily What does my partner want? It’s What becomes clear about my private life when another person enters the equation?

Sometimes you know exactly what you want when you’re alone with the idea. Sometimes you don’t find out until another human being has the temerity to have a position on it.

Then Taurus gets to decide what belongs in the house—and what has simply been living there rent-free.

For Gemini Suns, the New Moon falls in the 3rd house, so the returning life may begin with words, information, curiosity, writing, conversation, learning, siblings, neighbours or something close enough to ordinary life that you could easily miss its importance at first.

A subject grabs you. You start reading about something and somehow there are seventeen tabs open. A conversation keeps replaying after the other person has gone home. You want to write again, speak more plainly, learn a skill, ask the question you’d stopped asking, or follow a trail that initially appears to have no sensible destination whatsoever.

For Gemini, curiosity can be so familiar that you may not recognize when one particular curiosity has acquired unusual voltage. You’re interested in lots of things. This one keeps coming back.

That’s worth noticing.

The 3rd house is also full of the stories we tell so frequently that they eventually begin masquerading as facts. I’m terrible at that. I’ve never been creative. I’m the practical one. My sister is the clever one. I don’t speak in public. I could never write a book. Some of these descriptions may have been true once. Others may simply have enjoyed an extraordinarily long lease.

A Leo New Moon here may start rewriting the narrator.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 5th house, so the crystallized ideal lives among creativity, pleasure, romance, performance and the things you make because you want to make them.

This is interesting because the 5th house can develop a very refined picture of what creativity ought to look like. You may know the kind of writer you admire, the art you consider good, the people you find attractive, the style that pleases you, the sort of work you would be proud to put your name on.

Wonderful.

The problem comes when the ideal becomes so beautifully crystallized that you can no longer make anything without comparing the first grubby little attempt to the finished work of somebody who has been doing it for thirty years.

The New Moon in the 3rd may start much smaller. You write the paragraph. Take the class. Make the ridiculous video. Ask the question. Tell the story badly enough that you can finally discover how you actually want to tell it.

Venus may object because the result isn’t yet lovely.

Too bad. It has a pulse.

This semisquare may also show up through romance or pleasure. You may have a very established idea of what attracts you or what you enjoy, and then find yourself fascinated by somebody or something that appears to have wandered in from the wrong catalogue. Apparently your taste has been making plans without consulting you.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 11th house, which brings friends, groups, communities, audiences, professional networks and the future into the 3rd-house story.

Saturn here suggests that you’ve already learned a great deal about participating with other people. You may have built a readership, worked in organizations, cultivated friendships, learned how groups function, or spent enough time in communities to know that “finding your people” does not mean everybody suddenly becomes delightful.

There is experience here that can support whatever the 3rd-house New Moon is waking up.

Perhaps you already know how to reach people. Perhaps you’ve spent years learning how to explain complicated things. Perhaps a group you’ve belonged to gave you skills you can now use independently. Or perhaps an old friendship or professional connection becomes unexpectedly relevant to something you’re beginning.

Neptune in the 11th asks whether you’ve been imagining the future too narrowly.

Maybe you think you have to choose between writing what interests you and writing what an audience expects. Between belonging to a community and thinking independently. Between doing your own work and collaborating. Between keeping an old circle and finding a new one.

Then the third point appears.

Perhaps the audience changes. Perhaps you start something of your own and some of the old people come with you. Perhaps one strange conversation introduces you to a community you didn’t know existed. Perhaps the thing you thought would alienate everybody turns out to be exactly what attracts the right people.

Saturn knows how the existing network works.

Neptune suspects there may be another door in the building.

And Eris in the 11th can make other people extremely useful by being extremely irritating.

Somebody in your field writes the piece you wish you’d written. A friend starts the thing you’ve been discussing for ages. Someone with an audience says something so sharp that you spend the next hour thinking, Damn them, followed immediately by several pages of your own.

Excellent.

Eris in the 11th can provoke you through peers rather than authorities. These are the people close enough to your own level that comparison has bite. Their work shows you what is possible because you can’t dismiss them as some unreachable genius living on a mountain.

They’re right there.

Which is frankly much worse.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 7th house, so one-to-one encounters may become considerably less polite.

This can be a partner, but it can equally be a friend, client, collaborator, rival, sibling-in-law, adviser, critic, prospective lover or anybody standing across from you with enough consequence to require a response. The 7th is the other person who answers back.

Lilith here may make you much less willing to twist your thinking or language into a shape designed to preserve agreement. A conversation may become the place where you finally hear yourself say what you actually think. Someone may challenge you, misunderstand you, refuse your explanation or simply decline the role you had unconsciously assigned them.

Good.

The sculptor now works through encounter. Another person pushes against you, and you discover where your own edges are.

There may also be relationships built around an older version of your voice. People who are accustomed to you being agreeable, funny, diplomatic, detached, endlessly curious or available for every intellectual excursion may be surprised when one subject suddenly becomes serious for you.

Let them be surprised.

So for Gemini Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 3rd, 5th, 11th and 7th houses. Curiosity and language are waking up. Creativity wants somewhere to go. Friends, peers and audiences may provoke or support the development, while one-to-one encounters show you where your voice becomes less negotiable.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 6th house, and the fascinating idea encounters the working day.

This could be the most useful part.

At the New Moon, you’re interested. You’re reading, writing, talking, researching, learning, making connections and generally having a marvellous Gemini time.

At the first square, something asks: When are you actually going to do this?

The 6th house brings routine, labour, health, obligations and craft. The idea may require regular practice. The writing may require hours you currently give elsewhere. The course has assignments. The conversation produces work. The clever possibility needs a system.

You may discover that what you thought was merely intellectual excitement actually wants a place in your daily life.

That’s when you learn whether the curiosity has staying power.

If you find yourself rearranging your workday, protecting time, practising something repeatedly, changing a routine or becoming annoyed because ordinary obligations keep interfering with the new interest, there’s your clue.

The New Moon may begin with I want to know more about this.

The first square may reveal something considerably more serious:

I want to become good at it.

For Cancer Suns, the New Moon falls in the 2nd house, so the returning life begins with value: money, possessions, earning, resources, talents and the much more interesting question of what you’re willing to spend your finite time and ability on.

Something may begin changing in the way you support yourself or use what you already have. You may want to earn differently, charge differently, buy something that enlarges your possibilities, stop spending on something that no longer does, or take an ability more seriously because it has begun demanding a larger place in your life. The 2nd house is wonderfully concrete that way. Eventually the thing you say you value tends to appear somewhere in the allocation of money, time or labour.

And sometimes the New Moon exposes an ability you’ve been treating as ordinary simply because it belongs to you. You do it easily, so you assume everybody can. You’ve done it for friends for years. People keep asking you for help with it. Somewhere along the line, a genuine resource has been wandering around the house without a name tag.

The New Moon may start looking at it differently.

Venus at Libra 6 falls in your 4th house, so the crystallized ideal sits in home, family, property, ancestry and your picture of what a secure private life ought to look like. You may have worked hard to create a lovely home, preserve family stability, own property, care for people or establish the sort of security you once wanted very badly.

There may be real beauty in what you’ve built. The semisquare doesn’t argue with that. It asks whether the old picture of security still fits the life now trying to emerge.

Perhaps money has been organized almost entirely around the house. Perhaps family needs have determined what you earn, what you save and which risks you consider allowable. Perhaps you’ve held on to property, possessions or financial habits because they symbolize safety long after their practical usefulness changed. Or perhaps an old family idea about money—we don’t waste, we don’t ask, we keep something for emergencies, we don’t spend money on ourselves—has become so embedded that you no longer hear the ancestral chorus singing it.

The 2nd-house New Moon may begin asking whether security is supposed to protect life or prevent it from moving.

Saturn, Neptune and Eris are all in Aries in your 10th house, so career, reputation, authority and public work are heavily involved.

Saturn here says you’ve already built professional muscle. You’ve learned through responsibility, repetition and having to deliver whether inspiration was available or not. Even if you’re no longer employed, there is accumulated competence here: knowledge, judgment, expertise, contacts, the ability to handle problems that once would have sent you under the bed.

The 2nd-house New Moon may suddenly recognize that experience as a resource.

You may know how to do far more than your current income structure reflects. You may possess expertise that could be used independently, taught, sold, adapted or brought into something entirely different. And if you’re retired, this doesn’t have to mean marching back into paid employment in sensible trousers. The 10th is also what you contribute publicly and what you’re known for. Something you learned over a lifetime may still have somewhere to go.

Neptune in the 10th asks whether you’ve been imagining the professional options too narrowly. Perhaps the argument has been keep doing what I’ve always done or walk away completely. Earn properly or pursue the thing I love. Be taken seriously or do something unconventional.

Neptune is back with the triangle.

The third point may combine an old professional ability with a completely different interest. Expertise from one field becomes useful in another. A reputation you built for one reason opens a door you hadn’t intended to walk through. You discover that the thing you know and the thing you enjoy don’t have to live in separate postal codes.

Saturn built the professional blanket.

Neptune has once again begun eyeing the harbour.

Eris in the 10th may provide the provocation. Somebody in your profession makes better use of an opportunity. Someone with less experience puts themselves forward. A person whose work is frankly not better than yours has the audacity to charge more for it, promote it properly or behave as though it deserves an audience.

This could be exceptionally educational.

You may feel competitive, overlooked or irritated by another person’s public success, but Eris is less interested in whether they deserve it than in what their behaviour exposes in you. Have you been waiting to be invited? Assuming good work will introduce itself? Treating your experience as though it should somehow convert itself into value without your participation?

Sometimes the annoying person isn’t stealing your place.

They’re demonstrating that a place exists.

Black Moon Lilith falls in Sagittarius in your 6th house, and she takes her chisel to the working day.

The 6th is labour, routine, service, employment, health and all the repetitive tasks through which life is kept functioning. Lilith here may make you acutely aware of labour that has become excessive, invisible, badly paid or simply taken for granted.

Cancer can perform an astonishing amount of work under the heading of care. Family needs something, a colleague is struggling, the household won’t run itself, somebody has to remember the birthday, make the appointment, feed the creature, check on the elderly relative and know where the spare batteries are.

Eventually Lilith may ask why “somebody” keeps having your phone number.

This doesn’t make caring wrong. It does make unpaid, unacknowledged or automatic labour worth examining, particularly with the New Moon in the 2nd. Your time has value. Your body has limits. Your ability has value even when you use it lovingly.

And Lilith in the 6th may be quite willing to stop doing a task simply to discover whether civilization actually collapses.

So for Cancer Suns, I’d watch the conversation among the 2nd, 4th, 10th and 6th houses. Money and personal resources are beginning to move. An old picture of home and security may be shaping what feels permissible. Your accumulated professional competence may contain possibilities you haven’t fully used, while the daily labour of keeping everything going becomes much harder to treat as free.

Then the first-quarter Moon moves into Scorpio in your 5th house, and pleasure enters the accounting department.

This could be wonderfully revealing.

At the New Moon, you may think you’re dealing with money. You need more of it, want to use it differently, are reconsidering what something is worth, or have begun noticing an underused ability.

At the first square, you may discover that the source of movement is desire.

You want to make something. Take a risk. Have fun. Fall in love. Travel toward pleasure. Give serious time to a creative interest. Spend money on something that makes no conventional sense but makes you ridiculously happy. Or you become annoyed by how little room your current financial arrangement leaves for any of those things.

The 5th house can expose the difference between having enough money to maintain your life and having enough freedom inside that life to enjoy being alive.

A creative undertaking may also demand investment. The hobby needs equipment. The manuscript needs time. The performance requires nerve. The romance requires leaving the house. The thing you thought was “just for fun” begins behaving suspiciously like something you care about.

That may be the return address on the first-quarter obstacle.

You thought the New Moon was asking, What do I have?

By the first square, the more revealing question may be:

What do I want badly enough to use it for?
