Tonight there was a studio
and gallery Culture Crawl.
My youngest daughter was radiant
in her San Francisco designer
top and surrounded by
her amazing art, the crowds
murmuring appreciation.
Her sister and I left early
to walk the streets of Chinatown
garlanded and glittering.
We found a corner restaurant
full of beautiful women,
stars hanging from the ceiling
reflected in the walls of glass,
windows overlooking the cobbled streets
of Gastown. We ate Mexican
soup and tacos then called an Uber
and rode home talking about roast
elk, bear, rabbit and even snake
with an Iranian driver. You need to add
lots of onions, the driver explained.
Some days are just good, I’m thinking now
as I write all this down, and a cold
winter ale foams in a glass
by my elbow. Just good.

This is a photo of myself! The metal store front coverings in Chinatown have all been painted with beautiful mural art. This one is just outside my youngest daughter’s studio - Studio Doris. November 2025.
