I'll give it up
for you,
loneliness and nights without,
nights starved,
nights whining and steaming at the back door.
I'll give up terror
and armageddon, throw away
the apocalypse supplies,
make room for jigsaw puzzles
and extra firewood. I'll give up
night sweats and when you come to me
all hot fingered
and fully formed
I'll give up sorrow,
let all my injuries loose,
and if I cry at the window
as they race across the moonlit yard
you'll be the glass
where my breath collects
you'll be the hand
that draws the blinds.

Ah, the grand power of new love. I have had many such great loves in my life. It’s always a treat to rediscover a poem from those days. I found this one on an old Pinterest board where I had gathered confessions of love as a Valentine’s Day gift.
