Good morning, skim for your weekly roundup of jobs, industry readings, resources and more.

‘I’ve hired journalists. I’ve been rejected, too.’ Cristina Silva, The Boston Globe’s Managing Editor for Operations and Standards, is the voice behind Poynter’s new Ask the Recruiter series, a “weekly advice column offering practical guidance on navigating journalism careers,” according to her debut piece.

“I’ve sat on both sides of the interview table, with days spent firing questions at anxious candidates, and other times crossing my fingers and toes that I had the right words to persuade a hiring editor that they needed me on their team,” she wrote.

‘Stop the scroll: Vertical video workshop’: The Reynolds Journalism Institute is hosting a “2-part virtual workshop for beginners [where] attendees will learn the ins and outs of creating engaging and informative vertical storytelling experiences,” according to the event description.

The sessions take place on October 9 and October 23 and feature instructor Laura García of the BBC’s World Service and host Kat Duncan of the Reynolds Journalism Institute. The cost is $35.

‘3 of my favorite Claude automations right now’: Nisha Chittal, VP of Development & Chief of Staff at Vox, shared on LinkedIn time-saving automations that help keep her organized and on task at work from a morning briefing that tells her what her day looks like to Slack updates on post-meeting action items.
