Hello! My name is Marie, but you can call me Rie. I'm the creator behind Journaling4Joy, which officially launched in 2020 with an Etsy shop selling my custom-made Junk Journal Printables. Today, I have over 100 unique products in my shop, and my plan is to share these creations (and more!) with you over the next two years, as a curated subscription.
As a regular subscriber, you'll receive one of my pages from my pattern packs for FREE each week - perfect for incorporating into your own junk journals, art journals, or scrapbooks. However, if you upgrade to a premium subscription, you'll be treated to a full pattern pack each week. You’ll also have access to all the patterns previously released via email. That’s around a $14.50 value per month for only $7.00, or 4 pattern packs for the cost of two Etsy packs. In addition, you gain access to all of my previously emailed packs (emails started 9/4/23).
Once a month, I'll showcase one of my Junk Journal Kits, complete with 8 foldable pages, 4 large tags, 3 medium tags, 3 oval tags, 6 ATCs (Artist Trading Cards), and 13-word scraps! My free subscribers will receive a complimentary page of the featured kit.
Other weeks I will be featuring sample patterns, or previously unreleased patterns, (like the included pattern below). Premium subscribers will have access to a minimum of 10 printable pages per week, or about 40 per month. (Typical packs include 10 printables)
The beginnings of Journaling4Joy can be traced back to a Thanksgiving Dinner in 2013 at my Uncle Joe's, who happens to be an art instructor. During our conversation I expressed I was feeling burnt out as a creative professional. He recommended the process of junk journaling, and two transformative books by the creative team known as the Journal Junkies. These books ignited a passion in me for 'Junk Journaling', transforming the way I approached sketchbooks, from pristine objects of trepidation into playgrounds of chaotic beauty and personal expression.
I began chronicling my first art journal, via a video series, Block Block Goose, and I later attempted to transition this into an art supply box business in 2014, that didn't quite pan out. I found out I much rather create stuff than geek out about art supplies!

My love for creating patterns and page layouts remained undeterred. I continued to focus on my day job as a graphic designer and moved into bullet journaling, to augment my day job, and expand my junk journaling.
Fast forward to 2020, while working from home, after years of creating brands and business cards for others, I decided it was time to start building my own library of designs. Born out of a desire for creative independence, and another wave of burnout, Journaling4Joy came into existence.
After 3 years of having the shop on Etsy, I realized while people really enjoyed my patterns, Etsy doesn’t excel at delivering large packages of high-resolution images. I was forced to use external services to deliver the files. I wanted to create a more user-friendly way for people to download and access my patterns. I’m also hoping that I’ll be able to fund the creation of my Journaling4Joy patterns, and journal kits as my full-time gig!
