Friends, countrymen! I have been really aiming to get these printables in to your hot little hands (aka your printers or your library’s printer) on the early end of each month. That obviously didn’t happen this month. Let me explain!
✸ JOURNAL AS ALTAR HAS A WHOLE NEW SPRING START! (if you’re deep in Hobonichi land, wink wink). But what I mean is, we’ve rebranded! That’s obviously the royal we, given that JAA is all me. Though there is a “we” when it specifically comes to the rebrand. My very amazing (and hot, okay?) spouse, Ames, is a visual designer and UX/UI pro, and I was their client for this project! I am ecstatic about the new logo, visual assets, and the new site. It’s better than I could have ever imagined, to be honest. I cried when I first saw it. Ames understood my vision and artistic direction, and really just nailed it. We also switched platforms, which was a heavy lift. FYI, they are taking new clients, should you need some web design or graphic support. BUT REMEMBER WHEN YOUR CRUSH INEVITABLY DEVELOPS THAT THEY ARE MARRIED. TO ME.
The shop is on hold for now as I change out inventory for new stationery delights - but it re-opens Wednesday, 3/25/26. And, there will be more to come! This is just phase 1. Soon there will be a virtual workshop space, a short documentary style (let me not oversell my own skills here) video about Journal As Altar, and a changing mini blog section. It was really time for a change, as the previous JAA aesthetic just really wasn’t my vibe anymore. I needed new creative energy. And I got it! I even changed the name of this newsletter (Cut and Paste for Life - NOT Cute and Paste for Life, a ridiculous typo). I hope you love it all. If you don’t, tell your cat and not me.
✸ I WENT TO CHICAGO STATIONERY FEST, hosted by Paper and Pencil! Talk about stationery delights!! This was an an absolute dream. I got to meet internet friends in person for the first time, such as journaling sensations Ammie Y’all and Claire and Mady S and Journal & Jazz ⭐️ (and many others who aren’t here on substack). And I ran in to Job Airam from jobsjournal on instagram, who I’ve known from inside the online journaling community for TEN YEARS! It was a joy to connect in real life with lovely people I’ve known virtually, and the Paper People of it all was just so fun. Tyler and Eric (Paper and Pencil) and their whole team pulled off an immaculate event, and I loved every minute. It felt like community inside that beautiful event space, and that’s magic. Needless to say, I ummmm made some purchases.
Getting work tied up and sticker sheets made and new business cards ordered before leaving for this trip was a mad dash, but one thousand times worth it. Visiting the Paper and Pencil shop, where they sell my rubber stamps (!!!) was also so special, and the shop is stationery heaven with a very cool and kind staff. Additionally, I went on walks, went to the Museum of Contemporary Art, ate great food, and admired using easy public transportation. I also got to spend lots of quality time with wonderful friends who live in Chicago, and even got to celebrate a favorite 7 year old birthday in real life! I ❤️ Chicago.
All of this to say, your March printable is tardy! Your patience is so appreciated. I hope you enjoy this month’s sheet. Thank you for supporting my work in all of the ways - it means so much!
Remember to be a good neighbor, never give up on a better world for all of us, and hold your creative practices as sacred (let them fuel you to stay engaged, so you can channel your sorrow and rage towards the creation of that better world).
