When Vision Becomes Community

Sometimes a vision becomes real when you finally see it reflected in other people.

That is how I felt during the JOSHWAY Open House.

What began as a promise inspired by my brother Joshua has grown into a community of people who believe in investing in the next generation. As I reflect on the evening, I am reminded that the future is not built by buildings or programs.

It is built by people who choose to show up.

People toured the building.

Conversations filled the rooms.

Community leaders, educators, families, students, and supporters gathered under one roof.

But what stayed with me most was not the event itself.

It was the people.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Julie Huber, Darnell Scott, Katherine Jackson, Melissa Smith, and so many others who helped make the evening possible.

Their leadership, creativity, and willingness to serve transformed an idea into an experience.

A special shoutout to Carter “The Camera” McKinney for capturing so many incredible moments throughout the evening. Beyond his talent behind the camera, Carter represents exactly what JOSHWAY is all about, a young person stepping into his gifts, developing his craft, and contributing to something bigger than himself. Watching him document the event was a reminder that the next generation is not waiting for the future. They are already helping create it.

A special thank you to Carter for preserving these memories and capturing the energy, connections, and community spirit that filled the room.

Thank you to DJ Zee for bringing energy and excitement to the event and creating an atmosphere that was welcoming, engaging, and full of life.

And a special thank you to Theron Cook for the incredible original JOSHWAY painting. The piece was more than artwork. It was a reflection of creativity, passion, and the spirit of what we are building together.

As I looked around the room that evening, I was reminded of how blessed we are as a JOSHWAY community. The talent, generosity, creativity, and willingness to serve that exists within this community continues to amaze me.

The Open House was not just a showcase of a building.

It was a showcase of people using their gifts to make a difference.

Together, we welcomed more than fifty people into our space.

Educators connected with business leaders.

Parents connected with mentors.

Community leaders learned about our mission.

New relationships were formed.

For a brief moment, the vision was not something we were talking about.

It was happening right in front of us.

In many ways, that is the story of JOSHWAY.

After losing my younger brother Joshua in 2021, I made a promise.

A promise that young people should know they matter.

A promise that they should have opportunities to discover their strengths, build confidence, and imagine a future filled with possibility.

JOSHWAY was born from that promise.

But while vision may begin with one person, it can only grow through community.

It requires people who are willing to believe.

People who are willing to invest.

People who are willing to mentor.

People who are willing to show up.

One of the things we ask young people to do at JOSHWAY is take a pledge.

Not a pledge to be perfect.

Not a pledge to have all the answers.

A pledge to believe in themselves.

A pledge to keep learning.

A pledge to use their gifts and talents to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

As I stood in front of the room during the Open House, I realized that pledge is not just for young people.

It is for all of us.

Because every person who showed up was living it.

The volunteers.

The mentors.

The supporters.

The community leaders.

Each person was taking a step toward building a stronger future for the next generation.

That is what the JOSHWAY Pledge is really about.

Not inspiration alone.

Action.

Showing up.

Using what you have to help someone else move forward.

As we continue building toward the future, we invite you to take the JOSHWAY Pledge with us.
