Once More Around the Sun

Oddly enough, in the present moment we are able to write in the future tense. This is confusing to say the least. My birthday (44, HOLY SMOKES!) fell on Saturday this year. Friday, I sat down to write this ditty, but once I began to say what was going to happen over the weekend, I deleted the whole thing in a fit of superstition. It freaked me out. How would I know what was going to happen? I wouldn’t, and what if, by prognosticating, I bewitched some of the gears and WHAM, got whacked for arrogance? This is why folks say god willing, yada yada, and why the Aymara people of Bolivia consider the past, spatially, as something in front of them, where it is visible, and the future as something behind them, where it remains out of sight. Tell me that it is not interesting to consider your future following you rather than your past.1
