Three panels.

First panel: a lonely man sits on a bench, while people with dogs on leashes chat happily with each other.

Second panel: the man enters a pet shop; there’s a dog in the window.

Third panel: the man sits on the bench, with the dog on a leash. But the man is still lonely and miserable. The dog, on the other hand, has a big smile on its face while friendly people gather around and chat to it.

I don’t do many three panel comics anymore.

Archie’s dog was Spotty (just as Jughead’s dog was Hot Dog), though you usually only saw him in Little Archie comics. He presumably died before Archie became a teen. But in the 40’s, there was Archie’s original dog, Oscar:

He stuck around awhile, but had nothing like the staying power of Spotty.
