Josh Levine ⚡️ · The Job Sh*t Show

Chase Sterling, founder and executive director of Wellbeing Think Tank, has spent almost 25 years reading employee sentiment straight from Reddit and TikTok instead of press releases, and she’ll tell you we haven’t hit bottom yet.

My biggest takeaway: “The worst behavior you tolerate is your company culture.”

My core reframe: we keep measuring company health by stock price and profit, when the number that actually tells you something is attrition. A company can post record profits and still be losing people every 18 months, and that’s not success, that’s a leak nobody’s fixing. Chase’s point about CEO pay makes the same case with numbers. It went from 10 times the average worker in the 1980s to over 300 times today, and Dr. Bronner’s caps its own leadership at 20 times on purpose. To me, this isn’t a compensation problem. It’s a sign that the incentive system inside most organizations was never built to reward the people actually doing the work, only the people at the top of it.
