Field testing new methods and instruments

I feel like we have crammed six months’ worth of biochar water testing method development and instrument prototyping into the last six weeks. It has truly been a marathon renegade science session.

Ready or not, time to field test all this!

I might even have room for a change of clothes!

I’m off to Amazonian Ecuador to reunite with colleagues for the next phase of setting up our biochar and water testing field laboratory and water treatment consulting service!

I’ll be posting near-real-time updates of our work so watch this space.

I’ve just added the latest experimental results to the sections on

• Discovering ideal surrogate adsorbates

  • including identification of two new candidate “unicorn” fluorophores and their stability in natural water

• Prototyping DIY UV and fluorescence spectrometers

  • including some impressive results with our radically inexpensive DIY UVA₂₅₄ unit!

We’ll be continuing with RSSCT method development and spectrometer testing and optimization under real life field conditions in the Amazon jungle over the next couple of weeks.
