Remember the Old Days?

It’s been about a month since the New York and Baltimore Comic Con, and it’s been a busy month. Two weeks of conventions, and I then came home and went straight to work on O’Reilly colorings, drawings, and a new cover (which I hope I can post soon). I hope to post some form of a con report this week. While digging through my hard drive and looking for something (I forget what) online, I came across these old Y: The Last Man scans of Pia Guerra’s pencils and my inks. I think I added the test to the images on some old website that helped comic books artists drum up commissions. They may also be on my own website. Don’t recall. But I can’t imagine anyone else adding that info, or who would‘ve had access to the pencils and inks. So, most likely me.

It brought up the old question of “what does in inker do anyway?” Well, here you have it. The pencils are almost all there, but not exactly.In a case like this, it’s our job to finish the drawings off, put some polish on them, and make them print ready. After seeing the scans of Yorick and his girlfriend, I came across scans of the pencils from Y: The Last Man #5. The chains! I think I spent all day inking those chains. I spent a little while hunting down a scan of the finished inks since I knew some collector had the original. Thanks to The Grey Ghost for the borrowed scan. Ah the good old days of inking actual pencils and not bluelines, and rushing to Fed Ex to ship the pages out…
